Nethack

I know at least one of you has played this. If not, everybody, go play it now. Seriously great Roguelike, under 10 MB, do it.

Also, discuss any great stories.

Example: Once, I was on the level with the Cockatrice. It blinded me before I could cover my eyes, and swinging blindly, I hit my pet, and it turned on me and killed me. Pretty upsetting, considering how far in the Cockatrice is (Level 15 or so? I forget).

I prefer adom, much more in depth
NetHack is great, although I've never gotten as far as the Amulet. I once made it up to Beelzebub (I think) and did kill him with the help of my pet Archon, but I died shortly after due to his poison/sickness bullshit and of course you can't pray while in Hell...

ADoM is pretty epic, too. I've gotten up to the Temple of magic several times but can't kill the guardian. Stumbling around in the dark over an endless series of traps with no mana whilst being pummeled with ranged spells is frickin' ridiculous.

Dude, Hell was ridiculously difficult. I got through maybe twice on luck. Once I get close to it nowadays I feel the urge to chain smoke, lol.
I play Dungeon crawl stone soup. Nethack is cool too though. ADOM failed to grab me because it's not randomly generated. Oh and don't forget dwarf fortress!
most dungeons in adom were random... towns and wilderness weren't, but they were a fairly small component, useful for quests and so forth, not much fighting occured in them (normally)
nethack has wasted many hours of my time XD

one game i was up to the fort, doing quite well until i got blinded by a dragon, went back out of the fort level, still blind took a few steps and stumbled over a cockatrice corpse, was well gutted lol
I've beaten Nethack, and still go back occasionally to play again.
Never got as far in Adom, but it's also quite cool
