stat currency

what if poe added a currency you can use to permanently increase a characters stats?
overpowered, or a necessary addition to reach high stat requirements?

Previously considered and not implemented.

When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

If path of exile implemented a stat cap, I might say go for it. But with no stat cap this is far too powerful. Strength gives increased damage and life, intelligence mana and ES%, dexterity accuracy and EV %. If these went to incredibly large numbers it'd be incredibly broken. If you need a stat stick to make the game easier for you, might I suggest the Astramentis amulet? Pretty much +110-120 to all stats in a single piece of gear.
Without a cap, it quickly becomes a wealth-gating ordeal to where the hyper-wealthy could naked-walk through everything with zero issue. Build will matter zilch: it'll all be a matter of how many orbs you could buy. (some of you don't realize just HOW wealthy some players can get!)

I mean, if you could bump up to 10k strength, that's an extra +5k base life (like being able to just throw on an extra 5 legacy Kaom's for free: read that and tell me how that's balanced) and 2000% increased *ALL* damage. (at that point, Iron Grip/Iron Will *WILL* be used for obscene damage) No need to even bother leveling. Low-level dueling would become a complete joke: rather than an attempt to hold things controlled to avoid those with extreme high-end items, it'd just be a contest to see who had sunk more stat orbs in.
My guides: Summon Homing Missile (SRS) | Act II starter RF | Budget Oro's Flicker Strike
what if the stats added to a separate "stat pool" and only applied to equipping items, and provided no life/mana/eva/etc bonuses?
That's just making the rules inconsistent. It's not a better solution.
