Spell: Chaos pillar
wouldnt be surprised if something like this had been suggested already, the idea would be a:
Channeling chaos damage spell with design opposite to flameblast; start with big AoE, get stronger and smaller as it charges, the charge location can be changed as it is channeled as to not miss most of the time (you can aim with it). animation would be something like a dark purple pillar, the spell would be pretty weak at first stage but really strong in the last. Perhaps with a bigger difference than flameblast, where in this one you really want it smallest possible, with less stages maybe?. quality could be either poison or crit (or maybe something more original for a chaos spell? chance to flee? blind? something else?). quality: chance to root enemy, like bear trap.

When two witches watch two watches, which witch watches which watch? If the witches watching watches watch the same watch while you watch which witch watches which watch, they switch watches; then, the watch switching witches watch which watch you watch. Watching witches watch watches is not for the faint of heart... |

Much of the time flameblasters don't charge all the way to the top, because it's not only dangerous but unnecessary. If you gave the same mechanic to chaos pillar with a reverse, then hitting lightly might actually be the best option -- there is no chance to ignite so prolif is out, and focusing it for far longer than you need is inefficient for clear speed because it's AoE is probably too small to hit a full pack. Because of how hard it is to scale chaos damage too, it'd probably need to be far stronger in general.
Right now I don't see a chaos spell working as pure chaos without being a DoT, or having some kind of DoT component like desecrate or poison arrow -- DoT can be scaled much easier. If you want a chaos spell that acts as a normal spell, you're going to want to find a way to convert to chaos, like the infernal mantle or voltaxic rift. |

In line with the post above me, it would be better to make it closer to other chaos damage.
As such my idea would be: Chaos Well. Create a pool of chaotic energy, that deals chaos damage over time to enemies inside. Over time the area gets smaller but the damage increases. That way it has the inverse damage:area mechanic but doesn't deal all of it at once. |

What about a chaos cloud?
The caster creates a chaos cloud over a large area. Chaos rain starts to fell on the ground damaging mobs beneath and creating desecrated ground when it hits the surface. Chaos lightnings struck out random targets beneath the cloud doing crit DoT damage and culling out weaker mobs. The size of the cloud depend on charge time like in the case of flameblast. Imagine the enemies using that and needing to gear up to mitigate that.

I like the current direction where chaos is conversion through itemization, not an explicit tag.

" It would be a player only skill, so no mobs would use it. If you worry about PvP matches dominated by this skill then ask your would be opponent if he/she has that skill then you can decide to fight or not. What I think would be more cooler than the pillar is a beam. What if every damage type except physical would have a a beam type attack. Fire already has incinerate, which is kind of like a beam, but it's short range. We also have Searing bond, but it's still not as good as a beam that you could charge and needs strength nodes if you want to do serious damage with it. |
