Can't get the right color sockets

Hi guys,

I haven't played in over a year, and I remember when I played back then it was almost impossible to get certain colours on certain items, and it seems to be the same now? I'm trying to get 3 red 1 blue on my Ranger and it just won't give me more than one red ever. Is there something I'm missing?
You need to look at the type of the armor.

STR = high chance to have red orbs, or produce red orbs when you use a chromatic
DEX = green
INT = blue

Combinations use the same logic, eg, a STR/INT armor will have equal chance for red and blue sockets, and a tiny chance for green.

If you want to force odd colours onto an item, you have to use the crafting station you get by hiring that Vorici (sp?) guy. You can hire him after you get him to level 3 I think, and after getting a hideout. Guaranteeing the colour of 1 socket on any item costs 4 chromatics, and gets exponentially more expensive if you want to guarantee stuff like "1 blue 1 red 1 green" or "2 blues", etc.

Unless you're rich I suggest just going on poe.trade and buying a piece of gear with the correct colours rolled already.
Or use hybrid gear, a STR/DEX boots would roll 3R1B relatively easy. Best slot to sacrifice are probably gloves or boots, they have the lowest defense ratings so you aren't losing much.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

As mentioned above, the chance of getting specific socket colours is closely related to the type of armour being chromed - more specifically it's related to the INT/STR/DEX level requirements to equip it (i.e. a 6S chest that requires 45 dexterity to equip will have a significantly higher chance to roll non-green sockets than a 183 dexterity chest)

You can use this website to help you calculate approximately how many chroms you'd need on average to achieve specific colours. You'd need on average around 390 chroms to get GGRRRB on an assassin's garb using vorici's 1 guaranteed red socket option, for example. Might be quite a lot but it is definitely possible :P

Spoiler

Should also point out that you're much more likely to get 3 red and 1 blue on a six-socket or five-socket item than a four-socket one, if you're not worried about the colours of the other 2 (assuming it's a chest).

Getting RRRB on pure dex gloves/boots/helmet would be much harder. Hybrids are the way forward there.
For try for see and for know.
