So I just ran Poorjoy's Asylum - a thread about dying penalties

So today, Zana sent me to Poorjoy's Asylum. Nothing exceptional, as I believe it's the third time she's sent me there. By the way, here are two things I'd like the developers to note about this map :
+ Even though the map is large, I wouldn't call it a maze, as its layout is rather simple and always similar.
+ Some of the mods tend to be hidden behind Zana's quest. Especially which items the boss will drop.

So, what was special today was that I barely had anything to lose when dying to the map, as I had levelled the day before and only failed Haku's quest since. So, after my character died once in the map due to inattention (I had forgotten how hard the monsters hit there), I had no experience to lose anymore, as the map itself would hardly give me anything at my level.

At quarter of the map, I was close to the boss, and didn't know how hard it would be. I then decided that I would attempt it each time my inventory was full, in order to maximize my chances of killing it, while making sure I would optimize the loot I would get back to town.
I was surprised to discover that I was actually able to crush it very easily with hardly any danger for my character.

Later, I discovered two rare dropboxes, the first one (a large chestbox) containing an exile, while the second one had nothing unusual. My computer isn't very good, so, despite being largely capable of dealing with whatever monsters they contained, I knew the screen freeze would most likely kill me when getting the Rogue Exile to appear, and the other one's screen freeze was dangerous too, especially with the extra damage from the map. So, once again, I optimized in order to have full inventories when opening the strongboxes. Needless to say, as I thought, I died to screen freeze when opening each strongbox, but was largely capable of wiping the packs afterwards.

So, here are my conclusions :
* I am mitigated about the interest of having the 6-portal limit as an incentive to not die.
+ On the one hand, it actually punishes you for making a mistake, and allows you to try hard content.
- On the other hand, it leads to optimization, thus hardly having any risk at all (don't go back to town when your inventory is full, and you have 0 risk).

* The experience penalty, in addition to being extremely frustrating (I get the most frustrated when I consider I have no fault whatsoever in my character's death) and maybe being rage-quitty for part of the audience, fails at its purpose on multiple occasions (like when the player doesn't require the experience anymore, or has an empty experience bar).

To the people that'll post on this thread : please, if you are going to discuss the penalties, do so with an open mind. We've already had this kind of thread before, and having both parties being deaf about the other side's arguments is getting really tiring.

To the moderation, please be extra strict on this thread. I would love to have an open and constructive discussion here, but this can very quickly turn stale.
