Totems, benefit form cast speed?
Do totems benefit from your cast speed or only the few nodes that improve their own cast speed?

Totems literally cast spells as if they were you. Anything that would benefit your spells benefits theirs (although the totem is still the source of the spell for things like life leech and Herald procs).

There is a difference between totems generated by spell totem (the support gem) linked with a spell and totems generated by a skill gem (flame totem, shockwave totem).
Spell totem-spell is affected by generic "increased cast speed" nodes in the tree as well as totem specific "Spells cast by totems have x% increased cast speed" nodes. Flame totem and swt are NOT affected by the latter. Probably due to the fact that they don't cast a spell (unlike spell totem) in the literal sense (or it might just be another tooltip bug). |

are you 100% sure about that?, because plenty of flame totem builds get both forms of cast speed in abundance

" Speccing into a "Spells cast by totems have x% increased cast speed" node changes nothing in the tooltip display of my flame totem char (was the same with swt). No dps increase, no change in cast time. Tested it again just now. That means a) it is intended that those nodes don't affect flame totem/swt OR b) the skills are bugged OR c) the tooltip is bugged Maybe someone from GGG can pick an option. |

There's only 10% of 'cast speed of spells cast by totem' in total on the whole tree, so it's not exactly obvious. It would stand to reason it's a tooltip error, there are spell effects in the game that don't do spell damage but I don't think there are effects that do spell damage and aren't spells.
Nothing to do but test it the oldfashioned way, I suppose. EDIT: Ok, results are in, clean char, no caster gear, just totem nodes leading to totem cast speed. In 11,2s which is the totem duration, it gets to fire exactly 17 times, which roughly fits its default 1,66 casts per second if you count in the warmup time. With 10% 'increased cast speed of spells cast by totem' it gets 19 casts before it expires. I'd say this leaves no room for doubt, nodes work properly and tooltip is the usual culprit. I wonder if it's worth posting a bug report. Tooltip stuff probably ain't making it to the top of GGG's to-do list anyway. |

yea, ie the Life on hit tooltip bug with minions is there for ages:)
