[1.3] Kaptn's Elemental Tornado Shot HC

Disclaimer:

This Guide is aimed at new players, so if you have a lot of experience with POE you might want to jump to the end. Also, it will be aimed at Hardcore players, but feel free to “soft it down”

Starting in a new league:

Because nobody has any items, you have to start out playing semi-self-found. That means you don’t have excess to low level unique’ s or a lot of skill gems very cheap.

Usually leveling a bow-attack based char means you grab split arrow and some twink gear and then transfer into tornado shot at lvl 24.

However because you are a Templar, and don’t have access to Split arrow and tornado shot, you will choose to go the first 2 Acts of normal as a spell caster.

Appart from storm cloud and atziris foible, the only real MUST HAVE item for this build is a lioneye’s glare. The whole build is based on having this item, an no other fits the role so perfectly. Get one as soon as possible. (The main stat to look at is APS, the higher the better, don’t care about anything else!)

Bow: Lioneye’s

Boots: Lioneye’s Paws if you need STR and Dex. Otherwise Life and resist.

Chest: Piece should now have a lot of ES and a lot of EV OR Armour, whichever you find, with some decent life.

Quiver: should have life and resist, as well as either attack speed, ore weapon elemental damage. Whichever is missing, master craft it on.

Rings: are mana regen life and resist

gloves: have attack speed life and resist (added ele dmg is a luxiry)

Amulett: atziris foible

Helm: Anything with life and resist is good. After the first 5-6 days, try to look for an alphas howl. It’s the signature item for this build, and you need it for your last aura.

Vendor Recipes
Wiki for recipes: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Vendor_recipe_system

(“recipes” work by putting them into the selling window on the bottom of any vendor, you can check what you are getting by looking at the offer window on the top)

At the very beginning you want to get a +1 to cold gems weapon. You can do this be using the recipe:

Blue wand or Scepter, preferably at least 2 linked, + Alteration orb + Sapphire Ring

Feel free to pop an augmentation orb on your crafted weapon for an additional suffix.

If you have trouble finding sapphire rings you can vendor recipe them using an iron ring + any trash blue gem

You will put the ice Nova in this weapon with added cold and lightning as soon as you have them. Because you know what gems you will use, try to start out from a scepter/wand that already has these color of links.

Later you might want to craft a good bow. (Dissclaimer, the regal Orb is VERY expensive and you probably can buy much better weapons for less online!) For this start out with a high Attack per Second Base. Use the recipe:

Any rarity type of Weapon + Rare Rustic Sash + a Whetstone

Use an Augment and a Regal Orb on it

And add Flat Phyisichal dmg from Tora, to finish it up.

Masters

Haku
It’s very important to get Haku to lvl 4 as soon as possible. You want to use his resist Craft for 12 augments each on relatively good rare items. This can easily carry you to Merciless.

Eleron
Eleron is you best friend in the beginning of the game. He will be you go-to Master to help finishing up you resists because you can use those crafts from lvl 3 Eleron. ( I advise doing a daily rotation with friends or on the Global chanel #820 as soon as you get lvl 2 eleron) He should be your first “Create Hideout”

Tora
If you are leaning more to the self found route, getting tora to LVL 3 is important for the flat physical dmg master craft. You can Craft a “Royal bow at lvl 28” or even better, a “Grove bow at lvl 25” to % physical damage with the Belt Vendor Recepie, then upgrade it to rare with a regal, and put the flat physical master craft on it. I advise however to buy a storm cloud instead.

Wow, this actually seems pretty effective for a fresh-league build, and great for long-term racing to boot. I'm going to be trying this one out over that month.

Do you think this build can complete the 4 challenges of the one month event?
I specificaly wrote a beginner friendly guide to easly and efficiently finish all 4 of the challanges on your first char, solo, as fast as possible, either on HC or SC. To hurry things up you proboly want to emphesize damage dealing a bit more on softcore.

Have fun and may your lioneye's be fast!

nice, going to be doing something similar for the new 1 month
IGN: Standard League - Dark_Captain
I might do that if I rip my first character, I haven't tried tornado shot yet, and I love bow builds.

It's going to be pretty hard to get a TS/LMP Gem + stormcloud so early on in a brand new league. Most people that can get ts/lmp are going to use it and stormcloud is going to be expensive and very few if any on the first day. It would probably be better to level as flameblast until 60+ when you can run more auras/find a good bow + quiver/get the gems you need.
IGN = pibDeath
just take a rare grove bow...

well the thing is... some players find flameblast boring as hell.
How does Elemental TS compare to physical crit TS at end-game?
All that and a bag of chips!
