For me, and it is a belief shared among my friends (and maybe some of you fellow exiles) Path of Exile is the spiritual successor of Diablo 2.

There's only one ARPG on the market that can actually back that claim up ... and that's Grim Dawn being Titan Quests spiritual successor.

Besides,Diablo 1 is where it all began and comparing D1,D2 and D3 to each other it appears that D2 is actually the red headed step child of the series, but neither D2 or 3 capture the gothic atmosphere that Diablo1 projected.

=P

WTH are you talking about? Diablo 2 was a masterpiece for its time and still holds up to this day. Diablo 1, while great for its time has not held up at all. Diablo 1 is trash compared to Diablo 2.

As for Diablo 3, it has been trash from the get go.

Path of Exile is indeed the spiritual successor of Diablo 2. It is the only ARPG that is worthy to carry on the legacy that Diablo 2 left behind.

No. WTH are you talkin' bout

E: That "Trash" just hit 30 Million units sold, 10M of which were sold this year alone...lol

Diablo 3 publisher Activision Blizzard has sold more than 30 million copies of the action role-playing game, the company announced today.Diablo 3 was already the best-selling PC game of all time, having earned that title a year ago when lifetime sales of the game and Reaper of Souls topped 20 million copies. Blizzard launched Reaper of Souls in China in April.

Well I dare say if Diablo 2 still "held up" to this day you and I would be happily playing it and not POE or Diablo 3 .... wouldn't you think.

The only "spiritual succession" and "legacy" of D2 that POE enjoys is frustrating and annoying 1990s style "features" and an RMT market to not be proud of.Apart from that POE is it's own man in it's own league as far as I'm concerned.

The words "spiritual successor" get thrown around like candy these days and it mostly due to developers and gamers alike looking for some sort of justification, acknowledgement and reassurance to enjoy/develop something that actually isn't at all like the game they once loved.

The only developer I know of that currently has legit rights to call "spiritual successor" is Grim Dawn ...and quite possibly Unbended from former Ascaron devs (Sacred series),but that's a long way off yet to call.

"Spiritual Successor" criers mostly do a disfavor to games as whole.

Keep in mind that it seems pretty clear (given comparable other AAA cross-platform titles) that they're counting upgrades to Reaper of Souls in that number.

And even after that... Well, Call of Duty manages to push 8-digit sales for each year's release. That must make them really, REALLY great games, right?
My guides: Summon Homing Missile (SRS) | Act II starter RF | Budget Oro's Flicker Strike
It means people like them. You may not, but your opinion is the one in the minority.

Detailed? You want my details

D3 is all out casual and gives you everything spoon fed like literally no skill involved in this game or a state of mind what the fuck ever. ( Supfreshturnbaby Paragon1052 )

PoE is all out grindy as fuck and likely gouging your eyes repeatably with like a fork in your ass or gouging your eyes with a rusted spoon that works too. In other words it's complex and wonderful for the ''no life ' hardcore crowd etc w/e you wanna call them but the grind in that game or RNG in PoE is beyond horrid.
+ Drop rates are shit
+ RNG is shit

I could go on and on about both games but you get the point

The word you're looking for with Diablo 1 is not 'trash'. It is 'venerable'. Another is 'revered'. Diablo 1 did not age so well, no, but in its day it was beyond anything else out there. It was superseded ONLY by its direct descendant, Diablo 2.

I still find myself missing some aspects of Diablo 1, namely how the players were not showered by items and how spell books allowed character progression not tied to gear or xp
There was so much fun with Diablo 1 when I play it. It's true that Diablo 2 is better but like other said, its because its direct descendant.

Remeber the gold drop hack, raymond's trainer, cow level, godfather sword, zodiact ring and ammy. I still remember my first time to fight diablo, it was so excited and scared :)
If I go first, I'll wait for you in the other side of the dark water.

And Justin Bieber sold at least 50 million records.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
