How much Critical Strike Chance is enough?

I'm using the build planner tool for build a level 90 character. I'm wondering how much critical strike chance is enough? Does the "60% critical strike chance FOR spells" on Doom Cast contribute to the 95% maximum?

little wrong wording but yeah: Critical chance can not be less than 5% nor more than 95%.

However you need to read a little closer.

The chance to deal a critical strike is taken from the weapon used to perform an attack or attack skill, and in the case of spells, each spell has it's own critical strike chance, which is listed in the skill gem's description.
This value can be increased by increased critical strike chance modifiers from spells and gear. For example, if you are using a weapon with 5% chance to crit, and you have 50% increased critical strike chance, you will have a 7.5% chance to score a critical strike.

Your critical strike is based off of your weapons crit chance, so say you have 60% increase to crit chance on a base state of 5% then you would have little less then 8% chance to score a critical hit. That 5% base can only be within the threshold between 5% and 95% crit chance, however crit chance multiplier on a 5% base in pretty redonculus. On a base of 5% each 100% applied would be 5% O.o

so what would happen if lets say:
-weapon crit=5%
-crit strike chance=5%
-spell crit chance = 5%
-freezing pulse crit change=6%

how would the math work on that?
is there a difference between spell crit chance and regular crit chance? or is the critchacne already applied into my spell crit chance?

Well with what you gave your weapon crit and your crit strike chance would lump together to about a 5.25% crit chance give or take.

Now your spell crit chance is different, spells crits are not affected by a weapon's native crit chance, spells have their own crit chance built into them.

So if Freezing Pulse crit chance = 6% with a 10% increase to that your looking at 6.55%. Apologies for the approximation of terms its way too early ><

Edit: fix post.

lol yeah its almost 4am here xD
so if i cast freezing pulse it would be at a 6.3% crit chance? the weapon native crit chance is for regular attacks? just clarifying ^_^

and for nodes like assassination which adds 40% crit chance, not spell crit chance, would that affect my freezing pulse?
thanks for your in depth responses.

yeah you need to think of it as physical crit chance and spell crit chance.

Your physical attack is based on your weapons native crit chance + % crit chance.

Whereas your spell crit chance is separate from your physical and based on the spell's native crit chance + % crit chance + % spell crit chance. It is imprtant to note that plain crit chance is calculated into spell crit chance.

And as for Assassination that would affect physical crit chance and spell (im sorry not thinking streight ><). It is important to note that normal crit chance does affect spell crit chance in addition to spell crit chance.

Now not all skill gems are spells, some have physical and spell components to them like Lightning Strike: Unmodified projectiles will do 70% of full weapon damage, of which 50% is physical and 50% is lightning damage (the bolts benefit from added damage, e.g. as from aura's), against any target struck.

Your initial physical hit rolls, if you score a crit so does the lightning strikes. If the initial crit chance misses you then roll your spell crit. However do not quote me on this i have not got any confirmation on this yet.

EDIT: Fix post; Enjoy your morning im off to bed feel free to PM if you need anything else.
