DPS tooltips withTornado Shot and GMP. How is it measured?

If for example I have 5k dps on my Tornado Shot linked with GMP, how would the dps be measured? Is it one of these scenarios:

1. The dps is the total damage done if all projectiles (5 from the initial shot, plus 15 from the TS explosion) hit; or

2. The dps is the total damage done by the 5 initial projectiles if all hit; or

3. The dps is the damage done by a single projectile?

Or is it none of the above? Can anyone clear this thing for me?

Thanks in advance.

When two witches watch two watches, which witch watches which watch?
If the witches watching watches watch the same watch while you watch which witch watches which watch, they switch watches; then, the watch switching witches watch which watch you watch.
Watching witches watch watches is not for the faint of heart...
And thus the total damage potential, if all the projectiles hit, is 5+15 times whatever the tooltip shows?
You can do up to 5 times the tooltip DPS if each set of arrows gets one hit on the same enemy. You can't hit an enemy with more than one arrow from each individual "tornado".

Tornado Shot + GMP shoots 25 arrows tho.

And Tooltip DPS is ALWAYS per arrow. For example Barrage you can simply quadruple the DPS on that thing because you will be mainly using it for single target.

But some things can't shotgun.

The initial shots (1, 3, or 5, depending on your gems) can hit only once. So only 1 out of 3 or 5 will ever hit.

Then you have 3 or 5 blasts, which each release some more. Only one from each blast can hit. So at most, with only GMP, you can get up to 6 hits.
Thanks a lot. These answers have clarified things for me.
when it comes to tornado shot - the measure of DPS is also the player themselves.

a poorly placed tornado shot, will do like 1/3rd the DPS of a well placed shot.
tornado shot is one of those skills that really does separate the skilled from the casual.
