Life leech on AoE skills
Does Vaal Pact allow life leech on every monster hit by an AoE ability?
I have read somewhere that leeching on AoE effect only allows 1 leech to be queued. Is this still true where Vaal Pact applies leech instantly, thus avoiding the queue mechanic? I am afraid of killing myself to accidental reflect on my Bloodlines Flameblaster. I play very carefully to never charge it up very far, and the damage is spectacular at even 2 stacks, so that is what I do. If I get Vaal Pact the leech outperforms the reflect at 7.7% leech given 78% resist, 14% reflect (random rare, forget map reflect for now). But this is only true if I leech from ALL the monsters I hit, not just one. |

It effectively turns Life Leech into Life Gain on Hit, which is not limited in the same fashion as Leech.

Thanks! I'm terrified it wont work as I expect so I need to verify it the next reflect pack i encounter :)

An initial test on 3 reflect mobs on Merciless Strand seems to indicate that I do not leech from every monster.
At my current 6.9% leech from gem, 77% resist and a Flameblast dealing 15776 damage (6 charges) on 0% resist crabs, I should have reflected 508 damage back per mob to me. I should leech 435 per mob, which should have put me at 70ish behind max life. Instead I ended up around 800 below max life, which is sort of consistent with only leeching from 1 monster, while leech was ignored on the 2 others. Have anyone tested this before? When you have VP + leech, the order of operations is:
-leech from mob 1 -take reflect from mob 1 -leech from mob 2 -take reflect from mob 2 etc So you're going to end up below max life because you've not leeched back the reflect from the last mob. I can guarantee you you leech for every mob, I play a crit Discharger right now and I can easily deal myself 5 times my max life in reflected damage in a single pack, but it is never a problem. That's amazing!
Explains what I saw well enough. I will check again but I must have seen wrong on 800 below max life. Was it 600 below it would match brilliantly. Means I still gotta be careful after a big hit i guess since I can end up quite a lot below max life from even one monster reflecting a fully charged Flameblast. I run with debuffing resists by 126% (curse, EE, fire pen, nodes on tree), so a 0% resist monster can have -126% resist when I blast it. Is the reflected/leeched portion calculated before or after resist? Last edited by FatalityDance#6634 on Jan 20, 2015, 7:37:56 PM

just out of curiosity, how much fire penetration did you have attached to the flameblast, both from passives and the gem (and any other sources, i guess). And did you have the crabs' fire resist lowered via a curse or EE when you tested?.

"After, it goes off the real damage you deal to the mob (as with leech). Have you done something awesome with Sire of Shards? PM me and tell me all about it!

The way I understand it is that penetration on your skill will also cause the damage reflected to penetrate your resists to the same extend -> dangerous!
Online delenda est:
When the lifecycle of PoE will draw to an end many years from now, there needs to be a final patch making it available offline. |

" Reflected damage carries nothing with it. It is just damage. |
