Maligaro's Restraint: What's the Verdict?
" Well it's a cool unique. I think people frown on it a bit now but it will become more mainstream the longer the game continues to add more gear and abilities, particularly new ways to defend yourself. I just beat merc Vaal, solo, and I have to say that the +15% movespeed was more helpful than I anticipated. It allowed me to more easily escape vaal smash and his laser beam despite my satellite internet which encourages desync when facing Vaal. In fact I took almost no damage during the fight even though I was shocked for a bunch of it. It feels like the belt is getting work done! I've gotten quite attached to it. Even though simply putting on Bated Breath would make things much easier and safer. Unlike the 2H mara debacle, I think this one will actually work. I'm going to try Cast on Stun -> Desecrate -> Lightning Warp -> Ball Lightning -> Blind. Once I get links up. With Maloney's Quiver! Current Gear w/incomplete gem setup:

lightning arrow ci using voltaxic+soulstrike+your belt -> will reveal that build after the league ends since im busy making two more 85 for the challenges and my time is simply limited atm.
its still sad that they changed the shockstacks from the good old times hehe...... |

my verdict is that it has the best MTX ever, and i want to transfer it so bad but it doesnt work :(

" It absolutely does. As Tom already said.. " Tom's my son, he told me of his basic idea way back when. We bounced ideas back and forward between ourselves which he then bounced off of GGG. What he wanted was an item which gave you more damage at the cost of more risk, incrementally. As said, the idea was born when shocks stacked. One of the early ideas was that you dealt and took extra damage when you got shocked, per stack, along with more move speed as an extra buff/debuff, but could remove/click off, the buff/debuff. The idea was that you had some control over how deep you went. An example we used was fighting Vaal Oversoul. Where you may purposely dip into his lightning beam. There was a slight communication hitch when it came back that 'being able to click off shock stacks would be too OP'. Well that wasn't exactly what was intended, but whatever. At that point, the unique was put on hold as there was talk of elemental belt bases coming with/after 1.0.0. The new bases were shelved and of course shock stacks were removed. While it is possible to remove shock now, having immunity which can also be meta-controlled with duration pots that end the immunity on full resource, the initial control-damage-risk design is indeed much more real now. Will it? the DMG up only applies while you're shocked; having an immunity to shock will only decrease your clearspeed, won't it?

" There is an ebb and flow to using the Maligaro's Restraint. If you try it out for yourself you'll understand what I mean. So you think of the belt as a kill switch that you turn on when you want more damage, which would be most of the time, and then that you turn off when you need to have your defenses back, like let's say you experience a lag spike, then you would really want to have shock immunity at that time. Or vs a boss you may not think it's safe to have shock up during a certain phase, but during another phase it may be fine. It's a fun belt to play with, once you get used to it. And the 60% damage is equal to almost exactly +1 to your poison arrow gem level. Think about that. That's the main build I tested with it. With this update I KNOW we'll be seeing more players wearing long white T-shirts while surrounded by purple/blue energy bubbles. xD It's that much safer. Just linked this up today. So I figured time to combine it with our favorite belt, right guys? For a planned ground slam -> cast on melee kill -> righteous fire totem build. But I'm not sure if the damage increase from the belt will apply to totems' RF. Anyone know? |
