Cloak of Defiance - The only viable option for EB/MoM builds?
" It's not free though. You have to have huge mana free to act as a health sink. Thats mana that can't be used for offensive and defensive auras. Not to mention chest has no life no resits. Then sometimes you are dead in the water and cant cast, lightning warp away from danger etc after successive hits/reflect maps/tanking dominus beam etc after mana is eaten through even with 400-500 mana regen a sec. Yup MoM should be somewhere else. It's like putting CI near duelist tree. No sense. I think that it should be placed between witch and tempar tree.

You can certainly make a viable EK build with MoM on the tree, but it's a HUGE waste of points. You're so much better off skipping MoM or Cloak completely and going Phase Acrobatics + EB (even though Acrobatics decreases ES) + AA.
Still, I'm all for repositioning MoM on the skill tree to make it actually worthwhile. " This is extremely incorrect. With MoM you usually stack mana on the tree, or at the very least you stack ES on gear and mana regen on accessories. Not free at all. Plus with MoM you have to forfeit one or two auras. " Not bad at all, although I'm not a fan of going crit with EK since you have to abandon aura/buff effect nodes (which simultaneously boost offenses like Hatred and defensive tools like AA/Clarity/Discipline), plus you can get comparable damage with non-crit. " Conceptually, it's the same sort of keystone as Chaos Inoculation, Acrobatics, Resolute Technique, etc: one that sacrifices something supported by the other end of the skill tree to do something else better. As such, it should be as far away from the bulk of the +mana nodes as possible, and thus the spot it's at is entirely appropriate. However, mechanically speaking, it has more in common with Iron Reflexes, since CI, Acrobatics, and ResTech don't actually put the sacrificed resources to use, they just do away with them. In that respect, MoM has more in common with Iron Reflexes. One could argue, thus, that Iron Reflexes should be way up on the outside of the Shadow's area. I guess what I'm saying is "meh, okay, sure". |
