Item lvl vs monster lvl
This game has a horrible reputation of monsters dropping items under their level. I have been playing since Nov-Dec 2012. Yet I have to find a unique that is above level 30 and I have had many characters into or finished with merc.
I believe that if a monster can drop uniques lower than their level they should be able to drop ones higher as well. If not that, (this is for the haters out there) like in D3 the uniques they drop should be scaled up to their level. |

The drops are already scaled to the monster level, which in this game correspond to the number of sockets it can have. I agree that many uniques are vendored instantly, but many low level uniques can be very useful at high levels (Quill Rain and Searing Touch being easy examples)

like namcap said its not that simple. Searing touch is a BIS for many fire builds etc.
That said They looked at the unique spawns, and they should probably look at it again. Not very fun getting an unique iron sword in a lvl 77 map etc The Hyperbomber for 2.6: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1879383

Not the base stats of the item. the mods it can roll yes but wont do any good without be a build specific item.

Players want. Want. Want. Want.
Problem... if you give the players what they want, they wont want anymore. Wanting is what motivates playing this game. It's driven by your want for particular items or for improvements to items you have. Without want, the game would be pointless. |

Actually this game leaves me not wanting to play most of the time. I'll start up on a new league to try some of the skills and the league unique features then stop playing because it feels like im running in circles going no where. There is a limit to how much a game can make you want. It dangles a carrot in front of a quadriplegic....

I don't think that it's that weird for higher level monsters to drop lower leveled stuff, a higher leveled monster can probably kill all the monsters below its level but a lower leveled monster would die trying to kill a higher leveled one, might just be my weird way of thinking though...

If uniques dropped only from mobs of equal lvl it would mean we would have to farm very shitty zones with only one good item we could find. If mobs of any lvl could drop any unique it would mean there is no reason to farm higher areas. If unique stats scaled with mlvl the stats would have to be very generic for balance reasons. The game would turn shitty and pointless very quick. D3 is a good example of this happening.

As it is this game is very shitty on the item side. I don't see a point in farming higher lvl zones when you get lower level items. Higher drops don't drop enough to make it feel like you are making the slightest bit of progress.
Also why would a monster be holding onto such a low level unique? It's not like they are better then a blue of higher level. Last edited by korn7809#6196 on Dec 19, 2014, 3:43:09 PM

" 1. No. 2. If you think your so called "item level" is of any importance, i really wonder what you have been doing since 2012. (Hint: try /itemlevel) " What. The. Fork. Are you trying to be serious here? There is not a single ARPG out there with a comparable itemization. Why don't you try Master Crafting or trading to progress? (Guess the latter can be quite new to someone coming from D3, SCNR :) Also, you don't really want uniques, you want good rares. That's where it's at. Somehow like in D2 classic. Do you really want to farm the same unique 100 times until you get a good roll, and don't even look at rares because they suck? P.S.: It looks like you're more the type for "easy fun" than "hard fun". Google these terms, might spare you some time trying the wrong games. Perception is reality.
