Skin Transfer - how does it work?

So, I finally bought something.

I made my ugly Abyssus look like the wonderful Devoto's Devotion.

I read "Skin transfer is a consumable MTX".
I also see that DD is "destroyed" until I reclaim the MTX.

But...
When I reclaim, what will happen exactly?

Do I get to keep a "Devoto's Devotion" skin, AND get the item back?
Can I apply the reclaimed skin to other helmets (without wasting another MTX to do so)?
Can I apply the reclaimed skin to other helmets in other leagues?
Or will the MTX simply go away, as if it never happened, except I now only have 9/10 skin transfers?

(I could try it out myself, but I don't really want to waste the MTX)

The MTX is gone once you use it -> each skin transfer can make exactly one piece look different

Once you reclaim the transfer it will restore the old looks on the item it was used on and will also give you back the item thats looks you used.

In a scenario where you want to apply A'S look on B it leads to the following:
Skin Transfer + A + B -> B_with_A's_look (1 Skin Transfer gone)

If you then reclaim it:
reclaim + B -> A + B_with_old_look


Currently it only possible to use the Skin Transfer in the league where both items are in but there might be plans in the future to change how the Skin Transfer MTX works. This would mostly be interesting so people would be able to use alternate art unique skins in every league without the need to have the respective item in that respective league.

That's a pity.

I was hoping I could run around with cool looking gear in a new league and reapply the look to whatever item upgrades I find.

Instead I'll have to wait for "lategame gear" until I look cool, or spend a couple more dollars... :-(

I'd prefer the item to be permanently destroyed, and I get a "Devoto's Devotion" skin I can use whenever, wherever and as often as I want.
