Cleaning my PoE files

So...I've never really taken any notice before, but I decided to do a antivirus scan today, and was stuck on poe's shadercache for over 2 hours. 270 Folders and over 220k files? Dear god something's getting deleted when my scan is done!

Also I have a log file of almost 1gb >.>'

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows exactly how the caching works? My theory is as follows...

Each instance you load gets cached, and every time there's a poe update it's essentialy new, and needs to be cached once again? resulting in an absurd number of files in a long history of playing this game with the same install.
The Shader Cache is a cache of all the shaders, which are little programs your GPU runs for a lot of the effects. It caches them so it doesn't always have to recompile them each time to improve performance. You can delete the folder without much negative effect other than a slight delay in loading non-cached shaders.

As for the log, if you have no issues you're troubleshooting, just delete it once in a while. No negative effect other than losing history.
When you see a new combination of spell and aura effects, it saves that shader effect for future reuse. You can tell the virus scanner to exempt that directory if you don't want to delete the cache regularly.

If you have multiple resident file scanners active, it could be compounding the scanning time.
