An Alchemy Idea

After playing a few roguelikes, it's easy to notice alchemy being a ubiquitous mechanic. Drink a potion to heal or buff your dude to do super damage for a brief period of time. POE also has this but seems limited. Even though there are some cool unique flasks in POE, I feel like the flask system could use some sprucing up. Many of the mods on life or mana flasks are wasted because the effect goes away immediately after you reach your max life/mana. I don't see the harm in keeping the regen and/or effects active after your life reaches max.

In any case, I have a cool idea regarding flasks I wanted to share with you guys and see what you think.


Offensive Buff flasks
What if GGG had flasks that significantly buffed you for 10 seconds? A few examples...

Bloodlust Flask: For 10 seconds you gain 20% increasd attack speed and 5% life leech and for each kill you gain 1% increase in damage up to a maximum.

Chaotic Concoction: for 10 seconds your weapons do 20% more chaos damage.

Frightful Focus: For 10 seconds your spells have 20% chance to cause flee or be stunned on hit.

krokodil's Krunk: For 10 seconds your skin starts to blister and bleed causing poison damage on hit. Also, every other hit you receive does 50% reduced damage. (If you're crazy drunk you shouldn't feel the hits...).

Overload: For 10 seconds, your spell damage is increased by a % based on your mana regeneration.


"Weapon" Flasks
These flasks would be used in conjunction of flask skill gems. Whether they take up a flask spot or a weapon slot (maybe both?) is up to GGG, but the idea is that these flasks have a basic utility but could also have extra functionality when used with a skill gem or if it's in your belt. For example, if in your weapon slot, an oil flask would be thrown covering the ground with an oil slick that slows down monsters. If the oil flask is in your belt, this gives you an effect of increasing your burning damage, but increases fire damage you take and/or you have an increased chance of getting ignited. Some other flask ideas:

Lightning Flask. Basic weapon utility is to cover the ground with an area that shocks monsters standing on it. In the belt would increase lightning damage, but you have an increase in getting shocked.

Cold flask. Basic utility is to cover the ground with ice patches that chill monsters. Using it from your belt increases cold damage, but increases your chance to become frozen.


Flask Skill Gems
An offensive skill could be made for the oil flask if it could be used in the weapon slot. Here's a few examples:

Grenade (oil flasks, fire, attack, AOE): Throw an oil pot/flask at a monster and watch it light up in a glorious explosion. The monster is ignited including surrounding monsters (like elemental proliferation), but if the monster gets within melee range of its foe (you!), it will ignite them as well (I figure since the monster is now covered in burning oil, being next to it would suck).

Lightning Coils (lightning flask, lightning, AOE, spell): Spray/spit out lightning in a cone in front of you doing damage and causing blindness.

Flubber: (cold flasks, cold, duration, attack): Throw a cold flask at a monster and it bounces from one monster to the next, chilling it and doing damage.


Flask Support Gems
Liquid Coating: This supports your attack with the currently activated flask effects.... even healing!

Volitation: Active flask effects affect party members and minions.


Passive Flask Nodes
There are already flask nodes on the tree but only one cluster that increases effectiveness. If flask oriented skill gems become a reality, the tree could be expanded with more flask nodes.

Or this could be a mod you could craft onto a quicksilver flask.

I like this, sorta like a firetrap with less damage but more range - and no possibility of damage reflect.

I like this too - would create some healer type builds.
I'd like to see things such as more base flask types, and/or also a third affix from a new unique pool.
