Can Blood Rage "replace" Life Skills?

I wanted to first buy more life skills, but now I found the Blood Rage Gem. Can Blood Rage replace at higher levels in theory Life Skills? (My Blood Rage is currently only at level 2 :D)

8% increased maximum life and the like.

no, life leech is not instant but apllied over time. leech rate is based on your max life (20% per second)

in PoE, you cant go glass cannon and outleech all damage you take

edit: you can make leech instant at certain cost, but you would still die fairly often without having enough HP

Do you mean life passive nodes?

If so, no. No skill gem ever compares to a passive skill point.
