Are mortal pieces completely useless?

Aside from Hope, they are worthless. So are they also completely useless? At least the sacrifice pieces can be used to get higher quantity in maps. What if anything is the point of keeping mortal pieces?

You can use sac pieces on the map device to open a new corrupted area.
That also works with mortal pieces, inreasing the lvl of the corrupted area.

You can also use it with maps and gives 10%q..

And is the drop rate higher if you use mortal pieces to spawn the area?

even mortal hope is useless , unless you need a damn vertex , a shitty chest or a useless axe..

I want the gloves, but more than that, I just want to complete the hardest content in the game a few times. Right now I have a char that can probably do it, I just don't have the currency to actually open the damn thing. POE is a real grind to accumulate currency...
