Getting a good CPU and a fast HDD could definitely help (getting a strong GPU is a waste though, the game is written well enough on that side), but don't be sad if you still experience lag on your $2000 PC. Game client is really terrible I think, My brother is playing Diablo 3 on his computer on highest details and he is loading 5 mins or more to Path of Exile. I'm also loading like 5 mins to Path of Exile but I don't have problem with it. I'm playing this game since beta and after few visual upgrades in 1.20 I can't play this game anymore...
