Feedback: My first 20 hours

EDIT: This is my feedback, not your feedback. Your opinions may be different. Take this with a grain of salt. etc, etc.

This is a really nice take on the action RPG genre, and I'm having a lot of fun playing with the OB right now. But I've begun to notice a couple of annoying things about the game, and so without further ado:

1) Unique names are super annoying to come up with, and the biggest hindrance for new players to actually get into the game (once installed). I think Guild Wars 2 had the right idea here: duplicate names are fine. Also, while I'm busy trying to come up with a name the selected character will continously repeating its backstory, this is annoying.

2) I had to dig out an old Windows machine to play the game because the installer is doing something crazy weird on Linux/Wine (the "Allocating Space" issue).

3) The "timeout till open loot" bar is a great idea, but:

a) the timer is waaaaaaaaaay too short given the pathing issues during, for example, the Act 1 boss fight. While my character is trying to path up and down the platform, the timer is going and oops someone else gets my loot.

b) when people fall behind, the round-robin loot distribution system + short timeouts can interact such that they cannot get any loot. This affects ranged classes.

If I were on the dev team, I'd suggest displaying assigned loot and the countdown directly on the HUD - not in worldspace. You wouldn't have to change the timeout, and it would solve the problem for both ranged classes and the pathing issues.

4) Dragging loot into the stash is annoying. Modern games solve this issue by using a hot key (shift-click) to automatically move loot into an available space. A v1 solution wouldn't require a sophisticated sorting algorithm: shift-click could just look for the first free slot on the current tab or do nothing. In the future, you could implement something more intelligent.

5) I have 4 mouse buttons, I'd like to be able to remap MOUSE3 to MOUSE4.

6) Sometimes when I join a party, it seems like half of us are in different instances. I don't know how to fix this, so I usually leave the group.

7) Speaking of groups, a level filter would be nice.

EDIT: 8) Instance management is terrible. Story time: I created a public instance to go kill Brutus from the Rocky Cliff wp. A bunch of people joined near me, but someone joined further ahead and spawned the Lower Prison and Upper Prison maps, then killed Brutus without us, then ported out. Now, there's a semi-permanent open "kill brutus" map that people won't let die because they keep entering other people's portals. Meanwhile, *I* can't reset my map and am stuck on Act 1.

4) Try out CTRL+LMBclick
5) I solved this problem with my mouse software(Logitech Setpoint). Try to search for your mouse utility software to allocate different mouse button options for different applications. :)
X Mouse Button Control works for remapping

1) Be creative..sorry you cant be Gandalf...
2) Not GGGs problem
3)Its not "YOUR" loot..its a FFA loot game that has been compromised with a timer to allow derps to get some loot
4) Use the shortcut then
5) Valid
6) You need to zone into an area to meet up
7) Not needed as you only see the public games in the act you are in anyway

Thanks for your feedback and enjoy your stay however long it may be.
The item is yours when it is in your bag.
Well, Im not going to comment on the issues you presented here, because well, theres lots of feedback about most of it around the forums as is.

Glad your enjoying the game over all though. :D
GGG - Why you no?
#8:

I had sort of same problem with vaal. Created 5x a new instance and levels in pyramide where cleared or when we arrived Vaal was killed already and strange portals where standing in front: I think the instance management is not waterproof. I gave up on Vaal that night, ...

Ctrl-click does this.

Oddly enough, Ctrl-click does this, too. You can reset the map, using the instance management screen, which is accessed by ctrl-clicking on the area transition or waypoint to the area in question. For Brutus, he's part of the Upper Prison instance, so waypoint to the lower prison, crtl-click the transition to upper prison, and select 'new'.
Other people in the party may in some situations need to do the same to select to join the new instance you've created rather that the old one for the party.

I didn't know it worked like that. I assumed since He was in Warden's Chambers, and that cannot be reset, that you had to wait it out. Does it work the same with Merveil? Reset Cavern of Anger and she'll be waiting for you at the end in Merveil's Lair? That's a great tip, if so. I thought I tried that before only to find out she didn't respawn, but it would've been a long time ago.

Not MY loot? why did it have MY name on it?
The derps you are talking about may be a bow user staying far from the target to be able to deliver constant damage without being in real danger while the melee class tanks it. But then, the melee class loots everything despise having seen THE NAME of the bow user under the item.
I keep throwing money at my screen but I still can't get my private league. :'(
It was my understanding that the loot timer duration was based on how far a person is away from their loot. If this is not the case, my apologies, but that is what it feels like to me.
