Do skeletons die after a little time u summoned them?

I was happy making my first character as a summoner but my skeleton lasts for like 15 seconds then they vanish, is this the way it's supposed to be? Seems pretty stupid for me.. Does it get better later?

It says in the description they disapear. It doesn't get better other than using Queen's Decree, the unique skeleton centric greatsword.

Only with that unique item they increase the time alive??

I heard you can use totems to summon skeletons too is that true?

Yes but you get the Totem gem relatively late.
You might want to grab a Zombie Gem as addition, they are permanent (until they die)
Simply create a 2nd with and get to town for the gem :)
Totem requires level 31.
Most summoners link spell totem + summon skeletons + minion damage/life/what you want, even fire penetration or faster casting.

This way, you summon the totem and as long as the totems stay alive (some seconds) he keeps spamming skeletons over monsters as you move/attack, or what you want.

Spell totem is a huge gamechanger for a summoner; instead of franticly summoning skeletons two by two screaming "OH GOD PLEASE STOP THE MONSTERS BEFORE THEY EAT MY FACE!" you just put down an Elctro Skel-o-matic 2000™ and it will supply a steady stream of fearless skeletal warriors to do your bidding, provided your bidding is "shamble around and attack the bad guys." You can do this at level 31, and you will need a bit of strength (one +30 strength node is enough)

Minion Instability is another huge gamechanger, which for me came one level later at 32. Now when something breaks one of my zombies there is a nice satisfying BOOM!
thanks for the answers guys...

"Simply create a 2nd witch and get to town for the gem :)"

Bolded correction.
Summon skeletons can be tedious to spam click, especially in the midst of raising zombies and specters. Until you get spell totem at 31 (if you can afford it, it's a quest reward in cruel act 2) there's nothing you can do about it.

Frankly I think it's not awfully bad. I'm a pure level 33 necromancer and run with Anger, Wrath and Clarity. The only thing I have to cast for the time being is enfeeble when I'm not busy animating the dead.

Just make sure to build like this ASAP or you'll struggle early on. I learned that myself after initially heading down to the aura passive increases, presuming it would be the best choice because I already had Anger, Wrath and Hatred at level 1.
