Voltaxic Rift Bow not recognizing linked support gems

I recently purchased a 6 linked Voltaxic Rift bow for my ranger in the hopes of getting her a solid end-game weapon, but it does not appear to be working correctly....
It has six linked sockets, and so I believed that I could add an attack gem, Barrage, and 5 support to the attack, but it seems to refuse to use any support gems that add any7 damage to the bow, like Weapon Elemental Damage, Physical Projectile Damage, Added Lightning Damage, or Added Chaos Damage.
If you mouse over the attack it shows all 5 supports on the attack listed, but if you remove the damage increasing supports it does not change anything about the damage it does at all??
Am I just reading this wrong, is there something about that bow that makes it not allow increasing the damage output, or is it a bug in the item??
