Lightning coil, Cloak of flame & Cloak of defiance (mis)calculations

I did some maths while trying to figure out defences for a build i've been theory crafting after i luckily managed to corrupt this:


These calculations assume you could get the perfect 6% "damage taken gained as mana" rolls on your amulet, both rings and a shield. Combine the damage conversion mechanics with mind over matter, high regeneration, eldritch battery and arctic armour. It's also fairly easy to get mor endurance charges on all three options.

The calculations assume the order of calculation as: conversion > resistance & armour > arctic armour > damage taken gained as mana > damage taken to mana(mom) > damage taken to life

Additional notes:
-With lightning coil you could very easily invest into high lightning resist (up to 89%) and very high amount of armor(upwards of 15000) with iron reflexes. So going into mom effect is likely not even worth it.
-Using cloak of flame you most likely have very little to invest in eb, armour or evasion(ir), but you gain the offensive bonus of 10% chance to ignite, while the alternatives have no direct offensive bonus.
-Using cloak of defiance you gain a lot more regen(taken into account with +2 levels in arctic armour) and with the fairly good amount of evasion it's probably better to spec into acrobatics & phase acrobatics and take more mana nodes from the tree

585,882 phys armour 5000/(5000+(12*3200)) = 0,2941 + endurance charges 0,12
445,882 phys arctic armour flat physical reduction at lvl 17; -140
(* 196,188 mana gained before damage applied to mana. 445,882 * 0,44)
200,65 damage taken to mana (cloak of defiance + mindspiral = 45% mom)
245,24 damage taken to life

-5 mana

3142,642 phys armour 5000/(5000+(12*4000)) = 0,0943 + endurance charges 0,12
3002,642 phys arctic armour flat physical reduction at lvl 17; -140
(* 1321,16 mana gained before damage applied to mana. 3002,642 * 0,44)
1351,19 damage taken to mana
1651,45 damage taken to life

-30 mana
-1651 life





There are additional benefits with each item regarding how spread out your passive tree will be. Hope the math is somewhat correct and you've found this somwhat helpful.

Additional calcs:

Lightning coil + saffel's frame (newer one, 4% max) + passive tree nodes 4% + 15000 armour (grace+determination+ir) + purity of lightning lvl 23 (5%) + 6 endurance charges

physical hit 1000 damage:
1000 damage
600 phys + 48 lightning damage lightning coil effect with 88% lightning res (0.12(400))
50,595 phys + 48 lightning damage armour 15000/(15000+(12*600)) = 0,6757 + endurance charges 0,24

-99 life

physical hit 4000 damage:
4000 damage
2400 phys + 192 lightning damage lightning coil effect with 88% lightning res (0.12(1600))
1002,082 phys + 192 lightning damage armour 15000/(15000+(12*2400)) = 0,3425 + endurance charges 0,24

-1194 life





(the fairly easy to attain, but in the end somewhat extreme scenario:)
Lightning coil + saffel's frame (legacy, 5% max) + passive tree nodes 4% + 30000 armour (grace+determination+ir+flask) + purity of lightning lvl 23 (5%) + 7 endurance charges + topaz flask

physical hit 1000 damage:
1000 damage
600 phys lightning coil effect with 100% lightning res (0(400))
30 phys physical reduction caps at 95%

-30 life

physical hit 4000 damage:
4000 damage
2400 phys lightning coil effect with 100% lightning res (0(1600))
503,51 phys armour 30000/(30000+(12*2400)) = 0,5102 + endurance charges 0,28

-504 life

With about similar investment in the tree, but much, MUCH less investment into gear you can easily get superior damage mitigation against physical hits. Mind that you can easily boost your lightning resist to 100% with a flask and some aura effect nodes. Huge boosts to armour with ev/ev% and ar/ar% flasks to gain best possible mitigation against physical hits. At this point it's almost funny how overpowered it is:

what happen to cloack of defiance version with higher AA?

I took it into account as cloak of defiance grants you 90-110 mana and 40-50% mana regen, which has a massive impact on you regeneration. Corrected the values with lightning coil.
Now do the same with Lightnng Coil, 30k armor, 93% Lightning res (75% base, +10% from Purity of Lightning, +4% from passive tree, +4% from Saffel's Frame) and lvl 26 Arctic Armour + 24% Inner Force and Holy Strength (= -395 physical damage per hit)

==> aura build op O_O

uhh, how do you get 10% max from purity of lightning? i thought 7 was max

My scenario is realistic and you get 10% by taking lvl 23 Purity of Lightning (5%) and all aura effectiveness nodes (78%) + Inner Force cluster (21%) + Holy Strength node (3%) resulting in 102% increased aura effectiveness gving you 10% max lightning resistance.
This also boosts your Grace to over 4k base evasion and your Determination to >100% more armour. Take Iron Reflexes and some armour nodes (for example Body & Soul and Faith & Steel) and voila you can boost your armour to ridiculous amounts.
Oh, and don't forget to include Mind over Matter into the calculations :D

I see. In this case i think realistic is thoroughly subjective. Wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just get the flask effect nodes near witch start with a surgeon's topaz flask in a crit build?
