Dual-wielding with skills that only support one of the two weapons?

If I'm dual wielding but only one of the weapons is supported by the skill, do I still hit with both weapons when using the skill, or only with the one that is supported?

Specifically:

I am using cleave, axe mainhand, claw offhand. When I cleave, does the life-on-hit from the claw get applied or not?

From memory

1) for the skill to work at all it must work with the main-hand weapon
2) if the off-hand weapon doesn't work with the skill it will use the main-hand instead (so it will always use the main-hand and not alternate as it otherwise would.)

Regarding a claw in the off-hand, no life on hit won't work if the skill doesn't support claws.
Nothing to see here.
Thanks, that's helpful - are there any melee AoE skills that do work with claws? Lightning strike I guess is sort of AoE, but not physical - I was wanting to build into a primarily AoE life-leech/on-hit build and wondering what the best weapons/skills are to do that.

Forget dagger.
Forget claws.
They have no AoE-skill.

Cleave or Sweep are your only AoE-attacks as a melee you have (besides Ground Slam).
So axe / swords / maces, that's all you can use.
If you go for Iron Reflexe, screw swords, only usage is %-AR, axes have higher DPS, maces have higher reduced stun treshold.

So it comes down to axes or maces.
Make
Spectral Throw
great again

Actually Lightning Strike will work VERY, since you get the life on hit from both the melee part and from the two projectiles (if they actually hit something). With a support gem it could be used as an AoE skill, for the main attack something like Frenzy is probably better.

I assume that dual-wielding claws is the best way to get a life return of some kind if that is what you want.

Take a look at the wiki for a bit of inspiration :)

(Also disregard what the person above says).

you are wrong about sword.its not only AR%,sword also have global crit strike multiplier.there is 2 type of sword.rapier and sword.rapier give 20% global crit strike multiplier

People that can actually think don't need something like recount.

No sure this much is required to roughly estimate your damage output on a couple of mobs...
Take care out there.
