The Community's Flame Surge Build, By The Community For The Community

Hey guys,

Kry here, author of The Community Molten Strike. I have had quite a few people curious on my Flame Surge concept so I decided to put it up. Now since we had some great success with the community MS build I wanted to do the same with my newest flame surge concept. All ideas being used will have proper credit given as usual. If you suggest something and credit is not give, please just send a PM. Make sure no one said it first though :)

Concept

We will be running Fire trap + Multitrap + Incrased AOE to cause a large amount of burning patches on the ground. This will allow us to easily keep the +50% damage boost for Flame Surge.
We will run Mind over Matter and Arctic Armor will really help us against and damage we will receive as well as helping vs reflect. IR reflexes will help as well for extra defense.

We will take Three Dragons as this is a crit build and get the full use out of flame surge by making it shock on crit. This does not effect the burning ground of Fire Trap so we are still getting the 50% damage boost.

Why Fire Trap over Searing Bond and Righteous Fire?

I chose Fire Trap because RF and SB for a few reasons. First both are amazing killers on their own. Searing Bond is going to be more difficult to keep the burning constantly on the targets and will take longer to spread the burn as well. RF we have to really be up in the bosses face. You will probably spend more time manuvering around the boss and doging then you will be attacking so it just takes it back to more of the standard RF build in my opinion.

Fire trap we can just throw once or twice and cover a very large portion of the screen. They walk in, and boom burning. Trap explodes and crits, burning while spreading with ele prolif. Trap didnt crit but we got chance to ignite, boom burning and spreading with ele prolif. Flammability if being used dmg + chance to ignite, same idea. Fire and forget. This makes it a true Flame Surge build by letting us focus on the skill we are building for, Flame Surge.

Fire Trap + Multitrap + Increased AoE + Chance to Ignite + Elemental Proliferation

will give us 2% Fire Leech. Now with Molten Strike this is enough to sustain it so I am banking on it being enough for Flame Surge as well.

Looking to add a 1% fire leech stone of laz eventually as well.

How to get Chaos Orbs as a new player

Firstly explore everything, break everything... As a new character this can lead to some easy extra chaos, even an exalted orb. For example: I got my first ex of the league from a barrel in act1 cruel graveyard. $$ is everywhere, it only goes to those who look.

Orbs of Alterations (18 to 20:1 chaos)
Orbs of Fusing (2:1 chaos)
Jewlers Orbs (8:1 chaos)
Gemcutters Prisms (1:2 chaos or sometimes 2:3 chaos)
Orbs of Regret (Sell these in bundles: 3:4c).

These are what I generally will try and sell these for on the market. We are looking to try and get as much bang for our buck without spending too much time trying to sell things. By this you should at least have your Multistrike by the early to mid 20's.

Selling quality gems you will not use is another easy chaos gain, use poe.xyz.is to price them as well as uniques you may find.

This method also plays into the an easy way to gear... see the next section


Having gearing issues while leveling? Here is how to fix that.

First, we use poe.xyz.is. Make sure you select the appropriate league.

Enter your parameters and hit search.

example:
I want a chest so I select "body"

I want armor or armor evasion so I simply put a "1" in min under armor and this will at least give me all the armor, armor evasion, and armor energy shield options (we can neglect this last one).

I need fire resists:
I select +#% to Fire Resists

I also need some cold resists:
I press "add mod" and then select +#% to cold resists

I lastly would like to try and get some HP on the item as well
I select +# to maximum life

Select buyout and online now (if in a rush) to see the most convenient options available. The same idea can be applied to purchasing end game items but do not just simply shop online now. Check out all your options and add the player to your friends list if they are not online and wait a bit for them to appear. When you add them right click and "edit note". here put the item name and price you were looking for. Helps a lot.

Now most upgrades should be listed around 1 chaos or so, for leveling gear at least... 99% of the time you can contact the player and since leveling rares don't move fast you can probably pick it up by offering 1 fusing, or 10 alts, or even an alchemy for it.

That is gearing on a budget and is a great way to keep your defenses capt.

nice to see the new build come up, gj man.
Good defense always my first priority, would prefer to use the Cloak of Defiance as mom is great with eldritch battery, but infernal mantle seems a great bargain leveling item.

Well if we took CoD we could respec the tree to more crit and such and move away from having to go towards the duelist. Has been a ponder of mine. This is my first attempt at "caster" type so bit unsure of some things.

What I like about Infernal Mantle and speccing for MoM is that 25% of fire damage is converted to chaos making reflect hit a lot less when we crit. So this is a "hidden" defensive boost. Also +1 gems and fire dmg boost is a plus as well. But that 100% increased spell damage taken at low mana is going to be hard to work around possibly.

Why would you? The range on Flamesurge is really low and would be pretty bad in CoC.

yup. You would also need a massive amount of faster casting to out perform a fully supported FS anyways.

Maybe because Flame Surge is a spell, and spells can't trigger CoC. Just maybe...
Why have ele prolif on flame surge?
