♦ ♠ ♥ ♣ Proposal for a new crafting system (6L used as example)
Hi guys! I was inspired by a particular thread to come up with a more robust crafting system. The following method is just a general concept, and can be applied to other crafts (5L, 6S, affixes, socket colors, etc) by tweaking the numbers/recipe. So, here it goes:
How does the timer get terminated?

This crafting method has a few notable things:

What's the idea behind this crafting method?
Spoiler
The idea stems from the goal of involving the player in the crafting process. Imagine this as a real-life artisan (NPC) requiring a certain amount of time to complete your craft. But the NPC also requires more and more "emergency" resources during the crafting process to keep the item in optimal condition for 6-linking. If you interrupt (terminate) prematurely, the NPC won't be able to fully guarantee your craft is a success.
In the time between the fee intervals, the player isn't necessarily forced to stay in town. The player would still be able to farm easy (non-commital) content, so that they don't miss any of the fees. The main point is that the player will have to be logged in on that specific character for the entire 6 hour crafting process. It gives the crafting process a sense of duration. When players finally get the 6L, they can think to themselves, "damn, I stayed up for 6 hours straight to craft that 6L, but it was well worth it!" " Why? I have a life and from time to time I just open this game play a few maps and logout. Now you are asking for everyone to be like you and stay in front of the computed for 6 hours straight. Does this make any sense to you? I think this game already rewards no lifers greatly. Do you think we further need to widen this gap? " NPC = non player character. And you want me to imagine this as a real life Artisan? No thank you. If I need a real life Artisan I will go out and find one. In real life... I am afraid one day GGG will seriously consider one of this suggestions... |

" 1) The incentive is that you get a guaranteed 6L at the end of the 6 hours... 2) You don't have to stay for the full 6 hours. The more fees you pay, the higher the chance you get to 6L the item. You still get rewarded either way. ✮ in-game @FTMFW ✮ twitch.tv/RRTSON ✮ [Shop] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/909223 ✮ [Build of the Week] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1034503 Last edited by rrtson#7791 on May 5, 2014, 8:46:29 PM

" I like the fact that you're coming up with ideas to fix the broken "crafting" system but I unfortunately have to say I don't like most of these changes at all. Requiring someone to stay in front of their pc for 6 hours is prohibitive to anyone who lives in the real world, where sometimes your cat jumps on your tv and knocks it over and then drags it into your bathtub. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes
----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. Also, we went ahead and made cyclone great for CoC casters while we were at it. |

" The 6 hours is an end-goal, where you are guaranteed a result of a 6L. If something comes up, and you are suddenly unable to stay that long, you will still be rewarded with a higher chance of getting a 6L. It's not like if you terminate at 5:59, all of your efforts will be wasted. With our current crafting system, you could farm for a year straight, waste thousands of orbs on an item, and never attain the result you want. At least with my proposed method, if you have 6 hours to spare one day, and enough currency to cover the fees, you can be guaranteed a tangible result. Also, if this recipe is implemented, it would exist as an alternative method. You can still spam Fusing Orbs to your heart's content. And again, these numbers are completely made up. The number of hours required could be changed to 4 hours, 2 hours, 1 hour, or whatever. This thread is simply a concept of the method. ✮ in-game @FTMFW ✮ twitch.tv/RRTSON ✮ [Shop] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/909223 ✮ [Build of the Week] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1034503 Last edited by rrtson#7791 on May 5, 2014, 8:35:21 PM

" I'd rather they just make 6L available to people who play the game less than 5000 hours honestly. Because that is most of the player base, excluding bots. I don't see why they can't just reduce the number of fusings and make fusings "add" a link, and similar with jewelers. Still, more stuff is more stuff so why not. Having said that, the title is misleading I think because your post is about links and not about crafting, so to speak. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes ----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. " I'm guessing you mean decreasing Fusing Orb drop rates to the rarity of Exalted/Eternal? How would you justify that if a person wants to turn a 2L to a 3L? Versus someone who wants to turn a 5L to a 6L? The person who wants the 3L would have to waste an expensive currency. Also with the amount of Fusing Orbs that already exist in the economy, they can't simply make Fusing Orbs "add" a link. Your system would require GGG to erase all Fusing Orbs from existence first. Anyway, if you want to propose your own crafting system, you're welcome to do so on your own separate thread. I'm looking for feedback on mine. " It's not misleading, because linking an item is only 1 aspect to crafting. For example, if you wanted +life on a rare helmet, the recipe could be adjusted to 1 Exalted Orb + Coral Ring per fee. ✮ in-game @FTMFW ✮ twitch.tv/RRTSON ✮ [Shop] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/909223 ✮ [Build of the Week] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1034503 Last edited by rrtson#7791 on May 5, 2014, 8:45:30 PM

" Not sure i really agree here (not sure you actually 100% stand by the suggestion, either.) What i do think though, is that they very well could change how jews and fuse orbs work, and make it impossible to go "backwards" in what you already got. Meaning that once you roll 4 sockets, you can't roll 3 sockets. Once you get 4 links, you can't get 3. I DON'T mean that by that, you steadily reduce the number of roll possebilities and thus eliminating the potential cost. That's not what i'm saying. The way the system works can still be intact, meaning that the "computer" (very loose term, but you get it) can still wish for a 1 socket-roll on a 4 socket item if you use a jew, but nothing would happend. Meaning that the roll values would remain the same, but in practice it would never go backwards. That way, you would be able to actually dump orbs on gear you USE and not be afraid of losing the colors/links/sockets you already invested in getting, but the ppotential amount of jews/fuses you'd have to dump on the item to get it 5/6 socket/link would remain the same. TL;DR Basically, make it impossible to go backwards in links and jews, but keep the chances of the rolls. That would 100% guaranteed encourage crafting. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1552460 - my drop solution Specs: CPU - i5 9600k, geforce 2060, 32 gb ram, ssd, 2133/2333 mz.----- EXILES EVERYWHERE, PLEASE?!?!?! " Valid point, I do however feel that the prohibitive nature of 6L is just too much. Even rich guys complain about it. Maybe the currencies for 2-4L and 5-6L should be separated. my evasion is so high i only insta rip sometimes ----- Bug Fixes: People were using cyclone for actual melee builds, so we nerfed it and made blade vortex. " Orb of 'Lesser' Fusing Orb of 'Greater' Fusing Which would still require a complete wipe of the current economy. There are certainly many ways to tackle the crafting situation. It's just a matter of coming up with an impactful crafting method without having to destroy any current systems. Something that would: (1) add on top of what already exists, and (2) aid players in more predictably attaining results, which is mostly why I created this thread. " There's already a mechanic like that. It's called the Eternal Orb. You imprint an item, and can always revert back to your original if things go south. However, Eternal Orbs aren't an end-all be-all crafting solution. One, it's extremely rare. Secondly, you are still subject to vast amounts of RNG and the player cannot directly influence the type of roll when using an orb. For example, if you wanted +life on boots, you wouldn't be able to tell the game: "hey, I would like to increase my chances of getting the +life mod". Right now, if you try Exalting, the affix is simply drawn from the entire pool of available affixes. ✮ in-game @FTMFW ✮ twitch.tv/RRTSON ✮ [Shop] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/909223 ✮ [Build of the Week] http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1034503 Last edited by rrtson#7791 on May 5, 2014, 9:48:08 PM
