Lost Apex shard for ''Shadow of the vaal'' and can't continue to next quest

Hello!

A couple of hours ago, I joined a group to kill Vaal oversoul in act 2. We killed him, I died and when I resurrected and went through a town portal my apex shard was gone and I could not move through the open passage.. It says '' You need to have the Apex or place it on the dark altar so basically I cannot continue the story with that character. Is there anybody else that got the same problem as me?
