Question about Staves and Marauders

I am building a 2h marauder atm and I was wondering if a staff counts as a 2h. I don't see why it wouldn't but just checking. I have dumped a lot of points into general 2h passives but nothing like axe/sword/mace. I was thinking of using a staff because of the high base damage and chance to block. Thanks in advance sorry if it's a stupid question.

Yes. But staves are generally weaker than other weapons, so they do not make the most efficient choice.
