The "sticky targeting" needs adjustment.
I'm not sure if this is a new problem or if I just never noticed it before, but it's been annoying me greatly ever since I rerolled in 0.9.2.
Consider the following scenario. Lets suppose that I want to kill an approaching group of mobs. I thus target one of them, hold down Q (to which I've bound Cold Snap), and watch. But wait, now I get flanked by some other mobs! So I really need to move out of the way quickly. Here's where things start getting janky. To move out of the way I will need to release Q and click where I want to move. But if I click too soon after releasing Q, the game won't actually let me move. Instead it thinks I want to start shooting the mob that I was previously targeting despite the fact that I'm no longer targeting it with my mouse. So I start firing with my gimpy wand rather than getting out of the way. Basically, the game seems to remember my previous target for just a brief moment too long, which makes it think that I want to do something that I really, really do not want to do. In a game where I can die from a few unlucky hits the controls need to be more responsive than this. edit: And I confess to being a bit puzzled as to why this was moved into the non-feedback section? I seem to get this problem with the shift key as well. The game thinks I'm holding down shift for a little bit after I actually release shift, leading me to shoot instead of moving.
I also experience the situation described in the OP. |

I'm guessing this is deliberately done so as to make it easier to "combo" skills without losing your target, i.e. it's a feature and not a bug (and hence why I put it in the feedback section). But it's just too much right now. It's like playing an FPS where there's so much auto-aim that it becomes a hindrance rather than an aid.
edit: I also suspect that the slow response time is related to the problem of potions failing to initialize, but since I haven't actually managed to reliably replicate this that's more of a guess than anything. Last edited by gilligan#3516 on Sep 18, 2011, 10:18:03 AM

Not sure if it is related to this but i had some minor problems with looting stuff i didn't want to loot. while casiting lighnting nova i moved my mouse over an item, looked at it, clicked somewhere else. My character however seemed to realy like the item and picked it up.
Happend several times. |

This killed me at least twice in the last few days. I realy do not like how it works. Short description: 1.) I spam a spell with 'q', here lightning nova 2.) While spamming the spell i move my mouse over items to inspect them 4.) I don't like the item i move my mouse to another part of the screen 5.) Now i klick and hold down the left mouse button to move and after that release 'q' with which i was spamming my lightning nova 6.) My witch now picks up the item That's how it looks like: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/43/screenshot0011vs.jpg/ The mouse is anywhere but not near the item. What's the point in this? Why lock my movment to an item? Last edited by overpowdered#4125 on Sep 23, 2011, 4:20:53 PM

I reported similar issue regarding town portal targeting in the Bug Report section.

In the options under UI tab there is a check box called key pickup which will cause your chartacter to only pickup with the highlight key pressed, I think it is unchecked by default, the key setting can be changed under the keys tab.
I read it on the internet, so it must be true!

True, but then i do have to press every time i want to inspect an item the key pickup botton even if i do not want to pick up the item. Pushing the botton also shows me dozens of white items i'am not interested in at the moment, at least not while fighting.

I have noticed this problem with my fireball witch. I like to spam fireballs until they get into melee range and then start kiting. Often character responds too slow to my commands and doesn't move when I try to move him but spams one more fireball.
It can replicated easily if you try to do this fast (probably my sc2 APM is not helping me in this game :D) |

Those delayed inputs could be connected to the known sync problem. Which they hopefully fix soon.
