Desecrate/Detonate Dead build (updated w/ test video)
I'm thinking of trying out this build with the new patch, and I'm curious what you guys think of it.
Build is still a bit of work in progress. It works, I just need to get better defenses and improve single target damage for bosses (incinerate maybe?). I have dropped chaos damage, focusing on detonate dead. Looking at focusing on block for additional defense and I'm currently using cold snap on a 6L (borrowed from main & has no green sockets). That has helped a lot. Gives me time to get corpses down and start firing off DD. Video:

Blow up the Desecrate corpses with Detonate Dead. Stacks as HP, block, DOT, and fire damage. Des is slow to cast even with Faster Casting, I just tried
Spell totem for tanking is not a good idea, if totem dies, we'll have to run like a rat seeing a cat Des/Deto is not good for bosses that moving around imo Des/Flesh triple the clear speed and with the new passive, minions can benefit from it since more attack/cast speed = more leech. 40+ move speed = super fast clearing. Btw, minions are much much more tanky than before which make it much safer when they're around. Thats my PoV for now, no clue how it will be like with your idea, would love to heard something from your testing ^_^ |

I got my desecrate gem. Got my lvl 67 witch spec'ed into this build. First impression was kind of disappointing, but that was in A3 Merciless with a lvl 1 desecrate and DD level 4 or so. I'm leveling the gems up on my summoner.
Using Rime Gaze for Desecrate to get the free concentrated effect. Infernal Mantle for Detonate Dead for +1 fire gem bonus. Might be better options for gearing, but none that I currently have. Searing Touch would be ideal for damage. Depending on how good the desecrate damage turns out to be at high gem levels, I may consider adding viper strike. Sunblast Belt + Deer Stalker Boots
In the boots, Desecrate + Multi-trap + Con. Effect + ??? Some DoT nodes and/or Trap nodes And you should have 9 corpses for each use of the Desecrate trap to explode with Detonate Dead Haven't thought it all through. Just giving you something to think about. |

I prefer not to use traps if possible, but if there was a significant dps advantage I would consider it.

updated with video. Since I recorded this, I started using Cold Snap to help with the big groups that do a lot of damage (Perpetus owns me twice).

The great thing about DD is that it costs so little mana. Totally non-synergistic with your build that gets mega mana for MoM.
I also notice you didnt pick up the fire damage nodes. These seem almost vital as spell damage is useless to DD. Heres what my build looks like:

The dps increase is absurd. I use a low level desecrate and flammability linked to CWDT. But i also have a higher level desecrate linked with faster cast for manual placement. I rarely use curses manually with this build, i instead animate an ash prophet from the crematorium or general grevious's firemages. All in all it is VERY effective solo. But suffers quite a bit in a full group as i quickly run out of corpses and each DD does relatively much less damage. Good idea to use CWDT for desecrate & flammability. I definitely want to get a quality DD gem. I'm using a leveled DD gem with this build ATM because with EB I have insane mana regen. But I'll probably switch to lvl 1 Q20 eventually I take some fire damage, but I was focusing more on burning damage. I'll have to look at incorporating zombies and specters in my build.
