Walking sound effect mixing issue
I can't quite remember when I first noticed it, but I kept hearing these very loud *thumps* after playing a lot more in the last weeks.
I first thought about some sort of technical problem with my sound driver or a strange interaction with the windows sound system plus the browser. Because the sound almost resembles a bass click artifact that I know to well from low-end systems that can't keep with background tasks. Out of desperation to find a fix for it I played with the different sound sliders in-game and found out that it is in fact linked to the sound effects channel. Even if I have the slider down to 15-20% I can clearly hear the artifact when walking around randomly. So there seems to be mixing issue with the walking sfx, where it sometimes produces a very noticeable and harsh *tap tap* noise while the normal walking sound stays moderately quiet. I'm not sure if this happens with all classes, I tested it with my Scion. |

Hi there,
Thanks for letting us know. I have moved this to the audio feedback section so that the appropriate team members may be able to look into it for you. | |
The audio engine is currently not very good at handling audio clips shorter then a second, which is what the footstep sounds are. So you'll occasionally hear some loud footsteps or clicking noises.

" The fact PoE's game engine only handles 32 instead of 64 sounds at a time is also an issue when it comes to sound. When game developers ignore the criticism that would improve their game, the game fails. Just because a game receives a great amount of praise vs. only a small amount of criticism does not mean to call it a day and make a foolish misplaced assumption that it is perfect. "Yep, that's a limitation that was largely forgotten in the early 2000's (Lots of games around then started supporting 64 and even some games in the 90's supported more then 32) Computer specifications:
