Help with building a character

Hello , i started playing PoE when open beta started and im pretty confused on how to make a build that would be able to beat end game content . Im not much into rerolling everytime i screw up my toon so i need some guidence on how to plan my builds properly .

So i figured out what my 6L Mace would look like and i would like some additional help with finishing my build .

Ground Slam , Heavy strike with support gems : Melee physical dmg , Stun , Life gain on hit and Faster Attacks .

Can you suggest me other skills that are good in combination with Ground slam and heavy strike and any important passives that would benefit this build ?
