Elemental Damage VS Spell Power

I remember finding info on this awhile back but, can't find it again. If it already exists please link it. Feel free to discuss though as I couldn't find it anywhere. I want to know if Elemental Damage that affects spells is equivalent to Spell Power or if there's any added bonus to having Spell Power over straight Elemental Damage.

There are a few nodes that increase spell damage, these apply to spells, whether elemental or not. There are also elemental damage nodes, these apply to all elemental damage, whether they come from spells, attacks, or weapons with elemental damage mods.

So for instance spell damage would increase Shockwave Totem where as elemental damage would not?
