When are we going to get a formal "The intended spirit of the game" post?

I'm making this a thread, because I'd imagine the PM boxes of the devs are full by now.

I kept wondering why there was no EULA for Path of Exile and only a ToS, which was labeled as the EULA in the client installer, and thus I initially thought was a mistake. It was actually driving me crazy all day and I just didn't understand how GGG could overlook such a thing for so long, especially since they have an NDA on alpha. So, I re-read the ToS over and over, until I finally saw my (reading comprehension) mistake tonight:

"
Terms of Use: Welcome to Grinding Gear Games Limited's (“Grinding Gear Games”) 'Path of Exile' videogame (“POE”).

...

Any contravention by you of these Terms of Use or any other terms or conditions notified to you by Grinding Gear Games or any behaviour which Grinding Gear Games deems in its sole discretion is not in keeping with the intended spirit of participation in POE, terminates the Licence Immediately.

I honestly can't believe I missed it for so long. In one sentence, they essentially avoid the hassles that come along with a traditional EULA and it's enforcement. It's absolutely genius because they don't actually have to explicitly say what we can or can't do. They can just say what they intend for us to do, and anything outside of that, can be considered against the spirit of the game, and we all have agreed that they can terminate the license they provide us in that event if they so choose (inb4 ArenaNet).

That brings us to the point of the thread: When is there going to be a formal Open Beta "intended spirit of the game" post made? No assumptions, just a post that essentially says all the things that the devs mentioned during CBT that are now assumed to be in effect for OBT. Most people around now have no idea of this really, and it's something I felt should have been prepared before Open Beta.

I think this is important because a lot of people are going to misunderstand the ToS, just like I did, and mistakenly assume that just because the ToS doesn't cover the topics a traditional EULA does, then no such rules are in place, when in fact, it's quite the opposite. Most of us aren't lawyers, yet we are expected to understand these things as if we were.

For example, read Charan's replies in this thread. An emphasis needs to be made of this stuff sooner, rather than later, I believe. Just a simple post people can refer to, and it can be changed as OBT progresses as needed with anything that comes up.

Thanks!

PHEW!

For a second there I thought you were going to tell me that I agreed to become a human centipede or something....

I am not sure what you are looking for. the post you linked to was a mod telling others to report hackers/cheaters if they suspect something - don't think that requires a special post to be made clear.

Let me this try another way then. Pretend for a second you are new to the game and did not participate in Closed Beta. You've watched no streams of the game or any of the developer interviews. Using only the ToS and the stickied forum posts, or any other site link in the forum header/footer, please answer the following questions and provide the link that you read that used to base your answer on:

- Is multiboxing against the spirit of the game?
- Are client modifications against the spirit of the game?
- Is texture editing against the spirit of the game?
- Is Alt - F4'ing against the spirit of the game?
So on and so forth, stopping here because you get the idea (hopefully)

It's extremely hard and time consuming. You'd essentially have to be going through the Compilation of Grinding Gear Games Interviews thread and make a lot of assumptions. All you find when you search are topics (mostly) from Closed Beta, which are full of speculation as well as Dev replies that were made in the context of Closed Beta with certain intent for Open Beta, but we don't know if certain sentiments have changed.

More specifically, this isn't about the fact the client supports Alt + F4. It's about the fact, the only way to know Alt + F4 is not against the spirit of the game, past the assumption it is simply because the client supports it, is by watching the Kripparrian Q&A with Chris during closed beta. Now replace Alt + F4 with any other number of "intended spirit of the game" topics, and the statement still holds true.

That, is what I am looking for from GGG.

Congrats Chris & others for cashing out! I don't blame you. I'll be saving money now... unless I start making a lot more. Can't wait to see if you guys start a new studio in six years! RIP GGG
