A GGGames Design tribute :Self-found/manmode/famine/100hp on gear challenge nemesis (act 1 merci )

So after reading NotRegrets thread i had an urge to start some hard challenge for myself, and i thought i would share it with you guys so maybe others could participate as well.

My current rules are as follows :

1) The challenge will be held in nemesis

2) other then implicit life rolls, any life roll is considered blasphemy in the eyes of the elitist jerk and frowned upon. It is immediately sold to a scrub vendor. (so 2x30 hp corals and 1x 40 hp leather belts are allowed, however they cannot have other life rolls)

3) Famine : potions can only be refilled by killing mobs, not by teleporting to town. If a potion is filled up by doing this, it is immediately sold to a vendor before entering the portal again.

4) manmode : no summons are allowed, melee only, the elitist jerk frowns upon sidestepping difficulty in an easy game like PoE, and considers anybody doing so a pony that fart's fractured light.

5) What stash? : an elitist jerk has no need for additional inventory slots, let alone stash space, he will not trade with anybody to alleviate stress, if anything he will press it to new height's as a tribute to Chriss wilson and iron man combined.

6) the challenge is completed upon reaching the map device in mercilles.

Why? :

Very easy, PoE is an amazing game, but i feel a lot of people forget what gaming is about. It is about having a good time and reaching personal goals independent of other peoples goals.

The build :

I was just considering a new chaos viper strike build, so i am rolling with that one. Sadly it is dexterity based and not str based, but since this is for personal enjoyment i would say "fuck it" and continue steamrolling.

Personal goal :

Reaching the map device with a total of 100 life on gear combined, i am truly wondering what my life value will be once i reach merciless :D, i am also doing this to test the various defensive mechanics present in the current game, and how they can be abused in the best way to reach high EHP value's while having a low HP value.

Current gear 3/4th of normal.

Edit : Update : the famine rule was broken upon beating dominus in cruel.

Just made it to cruel difficulty, current hp value is at 936hp.

my gear at this point (i just reached the climb waypoint so will be doing brutus tonight)



im lvl 36 so i might farm ledge for lvl 37 to utilize the gloves.

This is not a blog :'), i'm just writing a little update here as i progress. This is more about the overall challenge that i enjoy. I also have no desire to make a "role play" book about my epic battles or anything.

I am doing this challenge to see how effective the defenses are in PoE and what can be achieved without utilizing hp.

I consider this would be interesting to the entire community depending on how far i can go.

I have "crafted" the armor piece until i hit a desired resist. took me about 5 orbs or so. Sadly one rolled with life on it and resis, so i had to reroll that.

It's funny how RNG works, when u don't want life rolls, you get them and vice versa :o)!

Edit : after reading that over, hmm this is a blog sort of, just not with detailed story's and progression :p, it is also a tribute to GGG's design philosophy!

at one point i have reached merciless act 2 with a build that had completely no life nodes, that was before life updates, so i had around 600 hp, i however stopped playing with it in merciless act2 as i wasnt able to tank even 2 attacks of white mobs nor 1 shot white mobs in a2 which lead me to abandoning this character until i got passive respec :)( this happened on hc league)

That's very impressive sir, where you a ranged char or melee?

I could see this be done with a ranged character if your dps is high enough to clear the path before you :D, with a melee character however it seems fairly problematic.

Still it is a very solid achievement, Gratz sir. It is very much in line with the hardcore design of GGG! :')

(i always imagine if desync was not so much of an issue we would see more of this, this is not a desync qq, just an observation)

So far i had 2 close encounters, both occurred in the tower (imagine that :p), i hope i make it to the tower in cruel that will be a very adrenaline filled time!

As far as i see, just pick up every ES item since there is no limit for that :D

I won't be doing that, since it would defeat the purpose of my challenge :)

So, a little update, current hp value is 1136hp, reached act2 cruel today.

Happened to bumb into damoi tui ore whatever he is called in the lower prison, was a fairly easy fight, he went down in about 2 min with some hit and run tactics and dropped some very cool boots for me

Since they have no life roll = excellent!!! :D

brutus also was not much of a fight swapped from 2h style to second weapon slot for sword+board
he granted me

So once i reach lvl 40 i'm pretty much gonna cakewalk act2 (as far as u can cakewalk it without hp rolls)
