20 mins into the game...
I think it's a fair point to say that the graphics in PoE and some of the map designs are not that aesthetically pleasing by todays standards. The cave systems for example are quite boring to looks at. Same with some of the square room maps, like the levels right before Vaal. They feel abit unimaginative in design.
From what I have seen in act3 though the design of act 3 maps looks much better. More colour and just more pleasing to look at then act1 and 2. Me personally I couldn't care less about the graphics though. Some of my favorite games which I still play to this day are very old. Games like Civ2, UFO etc. Really oldschool stuff I grew up with. But wether we like it or not. There will certainly be new player in OB who will have a hard time getting into the game because of the graphics. For gamers of today it is pretty important. I don't mean that PoE is ugly but just that it doesn't try and dazzle you with amazing visuals. The gameplay and mechanics is what makes the game good and that takes some time to explore and realise. |

" Exactly if you have a low end machine and a rocky internet connection you can hardly fault the game for not playing a smoothly. Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.

Well I don't really care much for the graphics of the game either but that doesn't keep me from playing it. The gameplay is very nice and the mechanics of the game are very immersive and in-depth.
After all it is an indie game with a small team and not some multi-billion dollar massive corporation, so you can't expect the graphics to be ultra-realistic and flawless animations. I'll bet companies like Activision/Blizzard have a bigger art team than the entire team at GGG. |

re: hitboxes, targeting
this is soemthing i hear quite often from new players to PoE. that the targeting is broken as they swing/shoot and the shot never connects. now the thing that's not obvious is the fact that there is accuracy which affects whether you hit or miss with your attacks and this is a passive that can be improved as you play. when i explain this to people they suddenly go "oh.. oh okay that's what it is. makes sense" and they continue on without issue. it makes me wonder if there's a visual or message-type thing that could be introduced to indicate that continually swinging and missing is a function of accuracy. i am trying to think of it but there's some game (maybe Torchlight) where you start seeing Glancing Blow or something when your weapons are no longer at a decent enough level to properly hit the targets. it's quite informative in that regard and i wonder if something along those lines needs to be implemented here. re: graphics this also is a tough one based on 20 minutes experience.. the game supposed to start bleak and colourless (and it does) however once you begin to see areas like the wardens cells, church dungeon, and through to what we've seen of Act III then you would see that the visuals clearly change and step up a notch. add to that the spell effects and auras and the game suddenly looks a lot more like a triple A title. again, you have to spend time in the world playing this game in order to be rewarded with better visuals. the main thing with PoE is that the core mechanics are what truly outshine the graphics, no matter how advanced they get. this is not at all a knock on the artists that are working hard to visualise this world, it's merely outlining the strength of this title is in it's complexity and design of its mechanics. good graphics is gravy. |

OP isn't a troll. If I'd posted after my first 20 minutes of playing PoE back in April 2012 I'd have said similar things. I gave the game a second chance in October and luckily for me, the devs had made updates that resolved my issues. I don't think OP will have as much luck given some of her wishes.
I suspect many people that experience PoE after reading about it in the mainstream media will think this way. If we can at least keep the threads respectful, there's a chance some people will convert in the long run rather than run off thinking all the fans of PoE are a "bunch of tossers" (pardon my English). There has to be a low point where some people stop complaining because it's just not worth it, and I have yet to see it. - Squeakypaw, 2013
