Bow Tank OBT (As a 1st toon for HC Farming)

I briefly saw "nugiyen" streaming his Ranger's Bow in 1 week race which is like a Bow Tank.

I thought it would be more efficient on a Marauder & probably very useful as a 1st character on OBT HC.
It's got all the Life & Defense though Dps is on the low side where you depend on your auras.

Lastly a Tank in this build doesn't mean you could face tank any mobs but with enough life buffer & defense from mistake.

74 Points [Resolute Technique]

90 Points [Resolute Technique]

95 Points [Resolute Technique]

95 Points after getting Accuracy gears [Eagle Eye]

95 points Stats with Resolute Tech:
Spoiler
320 max life
269% increase max life
4.4% life Regen
93% increase Armor
26.8% increase evasion
30 all resist
50 Elemental Damage
15% Attack Speed

You will probably be using 2H for leveling on Normal as it's easier to do so in early levels until you get Dex towards Iron Reflex, alternatively you could use Light Quiver & Dex Amulet to fulfill Dex requirements of bows.

Only repec RT when you have decent accuracy mods on your gears, though you may argue that with Frenzy giving high attack speed accuracy does not matter. It's a personal choice though.

Add Elemental Adaptation node whenever you think you can cap your resist in late game.

You will be using Frenzy for single target as well as charging up to 3 Frenzy charges for Multiple targets with Split Arrows. These gems are all available via quest rewards.

Weapons choice would be Bow, Physical bow would be best as you have Iron Grip, but a Elemental Bow is still good cus you have 50% increase elemental damage.
Alternate weapon are anything to be able to use Whirling Blades for traveling.

Gem Choice:
Frenzy
3L -> Frenzy + WEP + Added Fire/Faster Attack/Life gain on Hit
4L -> Frenzy + WEP + Added Fire/Faster Attack + Life gain on Hit/Faster Projectile
5L -> Frenzy + WEP + Added Fire + Faster Attack + Life gain on Hit/Faster Projectile

Split Arrows
3L -> Split Arrows + WEP + Added Fire/Faster Attack/Life gain on Hit
4L -> Frenzy + WEP + Added Fire/Faster Attack+ Life gain on Hit
5L -> LS + WEP + Added Fire + Life gain on Hit + Faster Attack

Side note:
Rain of Arrows can be used instead of Split Arrows, get it from Ranger Quest from Hillock.
You could add more skill points if you had more to AoE nodes near Templar for more effect.
3L -> RoA + WEP + Added Fire/Faster Projectile/Life Leech
4L -> RoA + WEP + Added Fire/Faster Projectile + Life Leech
5L -> RoA + WEP + Added Fire/ Faster Projectile + Life Leech + Increase AoE

Alternatively you could follow the same gem choice as Lezli which did some math on Frenzy for multi-targets:

If you are not getting Resolute Tech, then you might consider a "Additional Accuracy" gem until you have enough accuracy in your gears to remove it.

Chain/Pierce is optional to replace any gems on your Split or RoA, up to you to swap it around.

With fast attack speed, Life gain on hit is more beneficial especially when you can chill mobs to slow down their movement & attacks speed.

Utility
[Setting up atks/Traveling] Whirling Blades + Faster Attack
[Curse] Projectile Weakness/Temporal Chains/Critical Weakness
[As a Tanker] Decoy Totem
[Auras] Grace/Anger/Wrath + [Hatred (Only use it for Farming or when you have enough Life)]
[Buff] Blood Rage

Blood Rage can use instead of Frenzy to gain charges when farming as "Life gain on Hit" gem should be able to mitigate the chaos damage, though use it at your own risk.

Edited
Change Deadeye to Eagle Eye.
Build changed for more efficiency on points.

Looks like an interesting well thought out build. Will definately try out something similiar after my GS mara dies, which he will. :P

Thought I would add also that in the latest youtube video by kripparrian he shows the support gem additional accuracy. It has been buffed alot. The lvl 10 gem he showed gave +457 accuracy.

So might be pretty nice for a bow tank mara.

Yup I thought of that as well but it cripples the gems slot for more dps, either way it can be use for accuracy replacement until you got accuracy mod on your gears.
I wish to try this build as soone as OB launches.
My main concern with this build is the lack of dexterity overall for end game bows,
you have 104 dex at lvl 70 on the tree so you'd need at least another 75 on gear?
probably do-able...

Bows can get insane elemental mods even at lower level but a good physical bow might need requires high level, if you need Dex there's always Light Quiver (40 Dex) & Dex Amulet (30 Dex) plus these 2 has a chance of landing another Dex mods.

Please forgive my ignorance, but what does WEP stand for?

No problem, Weapon Elemental Damage.
Perhaps I am misunderstanding this then, but why would you use a physical bow but get Weapon Elemental Damage? It increases the elemental damage a weapon does, not the physical...right?

Because you will be running Anger/Wrath which are elemental.

Who know what kinda bows you could get, not easy to get a good physical bow.
