Mounts?
|
Isn't this the reason this is in BETA, to test out mechanics that will and will not work out. I don't see why not the Devs could make a crude version of it, and see how the Testers respond, will they like it? How does it affect gameplay? etc, etc.

How do you know if they are dead or not? you don't, until you test them out.
Sure there have been a lot of great theoretical arguments in this thread, and probably more in others, but you don't actually know until you try in these situations. Sure, it might be a waste of time, but there is a chance that it might not. Would you take that chance and be lazy, just because you don't think it could happen. Maybe creating a mount mechanic might bring some other Ideas to mind, for the developers, which might lead to something great, who knows for sure until you try. |

A good example of mounts working in an ARPG setting would be in Sacred. If you have not gotten a chance to play it you need to pick a copy up. You will not be sorry you did.

Mounts in a point and click RPG is pointless. You don't need extra speed or more carrying space. I'm pretty sure there will be a banking system like a Stash in-game were you can store things. If you've ever played a Point and Click RPG like Diablo for example, you'd see why mounts just won't work in any environment given in this genre of RPG.

Mounts wouldn't work as the areas are pretty tight from what I've seen. Realistically navigating them on a horse while in combat would be nigh impossible.
A pack animal on the other hand is always welcome. Especially if we can hunt you down and kill it for all the loot it's carrying... |

Unless the developers have already planned for mounts in the game (and thus worked up many systems to allow for it, from animation rigging for the different characters, collision allowance across every environment to ensure proper movement and pathing and graphics clipping, collision detection and so forth), you'd really have to balance the gain versus the effort.
Really, break down the things a mount would give you gameplay-wise in the game. I'll toss out some random examples (just roll with these): * Quicker movement * Attack bonuses * Additional storage * Further range for ranged weapons * Penalty to ranged weapon accuracy None of these are elements that are solely contextual to being on a mount. Bonuses and penalties can be effects from all sorts of equipment or spells. At that point, it comes down to aesthetics: it would be dang cool to see our characters riding around on a dragon, horse or (my personal preference) emu. Unfortunately, the trade off of effort versus gain at this point in the game might be a hard argument for the developers to make. |
