Crash when entering forest areas (Crossroads/BrokenBridge)

I broke the seal in Act 2 and plunged the world in to darkness. Now when entering various areas, including Crossroads and Broken Bridge, I receive this error message and the client crashes. Not every time, but often.

I'm not sure if it has to do with another bug but it's worth a try.
When I had crash problems in forrest areas a dev told me to add --softwareaudio to my PoE shortcut and it worked for me.
So now the entire shortcut for me reads as follows :

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\Client.exe" --softwareaudio
