Silly question. Have you actually just tried using Chromatics on it? Perhaps the sword can just roll white sockets...

hmmm..got me thinking what if you need to level that new gem to lvl 20 "Enhance" and then combine it with some gear or that weapon?Maybe that is the recipe for white sockets!
