Why not a "Golem" Support Gem!?
So here is how I sees it.
There is a support gem for spells, BZZZZT There is a support gem for ranged attacks, PEWPEW But no support gem for melee! THUNK Obviously pillars can't swing swords, and this would be silly. But why not GOLEMS! You take a melee attack skill; let us say it is Viper Strike. You attach the Golem support gem, and you now have a minion that uses this specific skill at -XX% Attack Speed And/Or -XX% Damage for XX Seconds at whatever mana cost. Oh and minion passives take effect. Why not? This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

You had me until, "...minion passives take effect." That might be asking for a bit too much...otherwise seems like a cool idea.

I think that this void will be filled when they add their mercenary system in the expansion. Probably you can gem them up and customize your mercs pretty well. I imagine it'll work similarly to what you described.

Chris (I believe, if not then another Dev) said they're probably not going to add a melee support totem. If I had to guess why, it is because they'd have to inherently be able to move, and recasting a totem for proper target acquisition is part of their balance. It'd likely be terribly imbalanced to have a properly functioning melee support totem running about, or nerfed so far into the dirt that it'd be was waste of Dev time to even consider.

I'm happy with no melee totem. Totems are too strong already, in my humble opinion. It often comes down to My Totem Can Beat Up Your Totem. Real men don't use totems. They use panty hose.
