Port forwarding / QoS info
Checked the FAQ, but no technical info there.
The one person I share my internet with, well, she finally discovered streaming. Joy. I tried to explain to her that 1.5 Mbit can't reasonably stream 720p and do anything else at the same time, that we'll be stepping on each other's toes pretty frequently from here on out unless we upgrade to 3Mbit. But since that box got plugged in two days ago my latency has been spiking constantly. Smoldering hatred incoming! I've been in this situation before, and it rarely ends well, especially with people who a) are inconsiderate b) don't understand. Turns out we can't get a 3Mbit upgrade, or more strangely, the provider thinks we're already getting 3 Mbit? I'll have to talk to them about that, because I'm only seeing 1.5. Oh well, line quality I guess. At least I have better technology these days. Alright, long story time is over. I have a linksys E1550, which *phew* has native QoS. A reasonably easy interface, too. Now, port numbers. Can anyone verify that there aren't any other ports PoE needs forwarded/shaped? login service: 20481 data: 41269 Anything else? -- I don't have alpha access, that was a LONG time ago. As an engineer, I second this request.

I can confirm the login port as:
TCP 20481 However, the data port(s) would appear to differ. Europe - TCP 56373 America - TCP 45161 Singapore - TCP 53089 Further testing would be needed to define the range of available ports for each region. |

I don't think your router will compete with QoS of video.. I have a linksys and I have my computers IP set to high and the rest of my network setup to low or medium. If I have torrents on for my low client it still over powers POE.
If your router can keep up with the video QoS's to allow POE access the other person's video would be pretty much crippled beyond watching. You might need a more powerfully router to do what you are looking for. Technically you don't need the ports you should be able to do IP based QoS (host based) with a linksys. |

Go to your local library and play PoE there? :D
