New PvP Features at Release Revealed

http://www.onrpg.com/articles/editorial/path-of-exile-1-0-launch-preview/

"New types of PvP offerings are on the way starting with a tried and true classic. Those familiar with the bandit raid event in the Second Act will have a general idea of how the new Capture The Flag PvP mode is going to play out.

Players will have to force their way into the enemy’s base as teams of five or six (final testing pending). Speed will come into play in tactics though, especially with the addition of new PvP Tournaments.

Hour long PvP tournaments will be on in which players will have to rack up wins through a set system or mode. The more wins you get in the hour, the better your chance of coming out on top with prizes. Therefore just winning isn’t enough as winning decisively will ensure overall victory in these time trials.

Finally we’ll have match-making on tap to get you paired up against players of your skill/power level to see how you truly stack up in the game. Rewards will be available only through these PvP modes so those looking for rare loot will need to sign up and prove their worth against actual thinking foes."

"If all this wasn’t enough new PvP tournaments that will challenge players to win as many fast-paced battles as they can in an hour and 6v6 capture the flag options are being added to the arena.

Guilds will also being an in-game system and all your PvP awards will count towards your guild. You’ll be able to store your shared wealth and compete in Guild PvP tourneys as well."

"PvP is being expanded through two new systems: speedy tournaments and capture-the-flag (CTF). Tournaments will be shotgun-style matches between fellow players in which the winner moves up and starts their next fight almost immediately.

Wilson says they pulled much of their inspiration for this style of tournament from speed chess. He likes the style because "players can know all the moves but have no time to think about it." The more matches you win the higher your rank in the tournament.

This method, as Wilson put it, also forces players to play decisively without wasting time with builds only meant to kite players to death. The team is also very excited to see how their previous Twitch.tv integration will help spectators get into the quick match action.

CTF PvP is still in the process of being finalized, but Wilson says that the game will be interesting because of the diversity of the PoE skill system and classes. The team also wants to avoid arbitrary CTF arenas, choosing instead to adopt meaningful scenarios such as a battle between bandit leaders found in the second act of the game.

Guild features such as storage and ranks will be added in version 1.0, as well. As players contribute towards tournaments, leagues, and races, the guild will earn points that will unlock awards from more storage to unique gear rewards. Guild storage will have the usual access and rank controls players would expect from an online game.

According to Wilson, players are already enjoying these aspects of the game and they want to continue to incentivize working toward a goal with a group of friends or other players."

link is broken I think
Hardcore Never scrubcore!
The link works for me but no post can be found. I am really glad to hear this news. Sounds like many more builds will come into play and you actually have to come up with a team comp.

finally, a game mode that gives high speed characters an advantage, 10-12 man CTF is gonna be insane. i couldnt be happier with what is coming to path of exile, now we just gotta wait to see the specifics on balance changes.

all depends on how the hell they will balance everything

one tough job
This game will have everything an ARPG game should have.

No stupid gold currency which becomes useless at high levels - an item (orbs) based currency which keeps u infront of the trade chat for hours + a high feeling of achievement.

With the addition of a matchmaking system for pvp and CTF mode this game will be fucking perfect. not to mention the anti pay-to-win mindset of the game with no AH to ruin the whole experience.

GGG, you're going the right path.
10/10
CTF on an ARPG with crazy build possibilities, f2p but not p2w ?

I may have found the game I will play for next years ... :)
One thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is whether or not the PVP level brackets will change (i.e. level 28 and under, Merciless). They could potentially run tournaments for lots of different brackets, but some stability is obviously needed in order to allow people to level/gear/practice correctly. And it would make sense to sync up the format of the "practice queues" (which is basically what our current PVP structure is) with the tournaments.

Anyone know any more than I do?

all I can say is, if they do take out lvl 28 pvp its gonna hurt a few players. I know many players have spent a good couple days worth of time just farming or trading or crafting for lvl 28 pvp. I wouldnt call this unfair, I would say that people who have done this are smart and were anticipating a pvp patch. Don't punish the people who never lost hope and kept their dedication strong with feedback and time building strong characters for pvp.

I would however like to see a good lvl 48 arena for cruel or something similar lvl. This would allow players to use all the skill gems yet certain unique items and end game gear would be too high of a lvl to use. I think the endgame pvp should be open ended for any lvl to queue up like it currently is. This allows players who have rushed through the game to still queue and maybe surprise veterans.
