Pronounciation

I get annoyed whenever I hear Nessa talk about Merveil. She pronounces it "MER-veal," which sounds really awkward to my ears. Maybe it's just me, being Canadian and exposed to French, but I've always pronounced Merveil in my head as "mer-VAY," as if it was French. I think it sounds much better that way.

Are there other names in PoE that you pronounce differently from the voice-actors? Which side of the "OR-ri-aff"/"or-RAI-eff" divide do you stand?

Discuss.

I pronounce Merveil the same as you because it seemed of french origin, or sometimes with an "l" at the end, like Mer-veil. The others are pretty straightforward. I pronounce Brutus as if it were an old roman name, something like BREW-TOOS (close enough) and Hilock like Hill-uck.

Can't think of others now.
It's "Mer-veil," as in, "mermaid" and "veil."

As for Oriath, the Templar pronounces it correctly in the character creation screen; the Ranger does not. =^[.]^=

Correction, the Ranger pronounces it correctly, the Templar does not. :P

Actually, did you mean duelist? :)

Well GGG is based in New Zealand, and so is the voice actress...

I like the differences in pronunciation. It adds the same flavor of different dialects that we have in the real world.

Yeah, I agree. ^^
Well, the templar's accent is different to the other voice actors. So yeah, it makes sense that he would pronounce Oriath differently as he probably comes from a different part of the world.

EDIT: By the way, the word is 'Pronunciation', not 'Pronounciation'. A common mistake that often escapes the grasp of many - the reason is that the root word is 'enunciate', not 'noun'. Just to make it a bit more confusing, it is 'Pronounce' not 'Pronunce'.

Same, I mean, obviously not everyone in the world pronounces everything the same way :P

I pronounce Merveil (MER-VEAL) as well, I dunno. Maybe it's cause I'm American and proper English is like the last thing on my list of things to do :D
I mostly pronounce Merveil "MER-vil" since when I pronounce it aloud, the e is silent. I do not mind if Merveil has different pronunciation since I do find it interesting to hear the name pronounced differently. It feels like she has a lot of different names. :D
