Who/what is Chayula? I've expected some sort of greek god or monster, but found nothing.

Chayula is a secret boss at the end of the game. If you manage to defeat him you can cut out his eye and take it. This eye can then be used as fishing bait so that you can have a chance to fish up the Eye of Chayula amulet.
