Spell Templar - Is my weapon damage useless?

I never use my weapon to attack monsters because i focus my skill tree on spells. Is my weapon damage close to useless or is there a connection between my weapon damage and my spell damage?

As far as I'm aware your weapon elemental damage only affects that, your weapon.
Sorry :(
Terrible life choices are my thing.
ok, thanks :)

Skills and spells such as lightning arrow that do, for example, 50% of damage as lightning damage and 150% base damage are affeected by your weapons attack stats but for spells such as fireball that does x-x damage it won't affect it unless the blue text says it affects spells for example +15% spell damage

Wands, Scepters, Staves and daggers have a chance to come with increased spell damage mods, as well as other mods that will be useful to you.

Wands have innate increased spell damage. Scepters have innate increased elemental damage. Daggers have innate increased critical chance.

You should be using one of these weapons and ignoring the base damage of the weapon.
but "elemental damage" is all the way. i found that with a nice scepter and those nodes you can hit hard and cast lots of spells too.

It is best practice.
