Game repeats the message "Find a way to the Vaal ruins/Poison the Ancient Tree"

I was using a level 24 ranger. I used the wicket spear and the bale gem individually on the tree.

The message kept popping up, alternating between the two constantly.
After I poisoned the tree, the messages still popped up (both of them).
After I entered/exited the Vaal ruins via waypoint to home, the "find a way into the Vaal ruins" kept popping up for about 30 seconds.
