Lost in descent leveling

Hi All,

I played my first descent race yesterday and i enjoyed every little bit of it. Picked mara , slow start , a few decent drops I had fun. But in the 60 minutes i managed only to get to level 10 (still 3 points :) ) , what baffled me was that at that time people were around level 20-25. At the start i just looted the chest and killed the first mob , and people were level 2 (first 15 seconds) . I know people are good with managing inventory , quick equip and stuff like that , but i felt i did something terribly wrong . Today i plan to attend another descent so i would like to ask how do people level THAT fast? Skipping mobs , bosses?
I've scoured the forums but only found a few references / advices but none seemed relevant to my situation .
I know this isn't exactly a feedback , so i might be in the wrong section of the forum , for which i apologize , but any advice on this format is welcomed.

PS : Don't waste your time calling me a noob . I am a noob and i'm aware of that :)

Thanks
Lasperic
Here is few things you can do :

-Only kill big packs
-Manage your items/skill tree while moving
-Use quicksilver flask to run faster
-Use a good AoE spell to kill packs fast
-Hope you'll get good loot :)
-Understand the way maps are generated to find your way faster
-Dodge as max as possible because you can't refill your flask in town
-Use your flask a clever way
-Use your flask a more clever way (they all refill when you kill a monster so never use the same twice)

Well, the people who hit level 2 almost immediately have blue enemies right beside the player spawn. Don't worry too much about that because the enemy rarity is completely out of your control.

I'd suggest watching some recordings of players who perform decently well. For example:

Kripp (Templar) in Event 7:

cwu (Duelist) in Event 7:

nugiyen (Ranger) in Event 1:

If you plan to use the same class and the same build as before (use http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/442549/page/1 or https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoYgKe1CFjlrdHhKMzFyT21xMVlENUdDSnhkTWh5OHc#gid=0 to see what gems and potential gear you can get), figure out the areas in which you can easily gain experience and spend more time in those areas while killing less in the areas you find more difficult or time-consuming. Most players, for example, will skip as much of the Tomb of Statues as possible.

As you may know, you will generally want to stay within 3-4 character levels of the area level for maximum experience gain. So if you really want to push your score, you will want to be around 3 levels under the area level. Of course if you plan to skip some areas, you should account for that when leveling in previous areas i.e. enter the Tomb of Statues 1-2 levels under so that you enter Frozen Abyss 3-4 levels under.

As far as bosses go, difficulty will vary by class and by player. A boss that's dangerous and/or takes a long time to kill (such as Alira in the Capricious Tomb) should be skipped. Others may be worth the time, especially if your build is dependent on gear.
And as it is such so also as such is it unto you
