If you have an issue with it, please go make your own feedback thread about this. I am not here to address map drop frequency. I am here to talk about rewarding players who do difficult mods.

I was just wondering... Shouldn't there be a bonus to experience gained for doing a hard map... ? It makes perfect sense to me, as players want to gain, from a map, three things:
Maps
Loot
Experience points

The first two rewards are addressed by the map IIQ coming from mods, while the third reward is not.

That can be a point for consideration. Hard makes sometimes take up to twice the time to do, particularly at higher levels. Currently, EXP gain is obviously skewered in favour of the Hordes/Labyrinthine/Massive affixes.

Which is especially ironic, since the easiest (available at lowest character and gear level) affixes provide the most XP, while the hardest affixes provide the least.

I know it sounds extreme, but every map affix that grants +IIQ deserves a matching +XP bonus. Seriously.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

I wanted to suggest exactly the same thing...

As a solo evasion melee player the dangerous affixes are not at all the same as for the average elemental/armor/life stacking player. Chaining, LMP and other projectile mods do almost nothing to me as i have Arrow dodging and run solo. So its very hard to make these bonuses balanced for all builds and situations.

The affix combinations are dangerous in general. There will always be certain combinations that are deadlier to groups than they are to solo players and vice versa.

It isn't necessary to make ideally balanced rewards for all builds because this is never the case. What does need to be done is a general sweep through to identify how and where lacking areas within the affix system are and to remedy it.

Thank you to those who have contributed so far, I look forward to more fruitful discussion on this!

Rather than taking the standard "nerf" approach, my design paradigm revolves around never "nerfing" things but rather "buffing" things that are lacking.

This sentance does not fit your overlall reasonable post!
I feel that the removal of area size / pack size / maze / +magic monsters and other mods that do not make the maps more difficult but add multiplicative item quantity (due to more monsters) would be a huge step in the right direction. Seriously, remove the 'mandatory' mods.

Or just nerf them until they aren't mandatory anymore. Which is preferable; we need as much map variety as possible.

I like this idea. Anything to steer away from the mandatory maze/champions would be a HUGE improvement.

how would you suggest 'nerfing' them?

and what would be the point?

I guess you could make them give -% quality in an attempt to balance them, but they seem so very unnecessary as they don't actually add ANY variety. More of the same is not variety, and that is exactly what these mods are, the same shit just more of it.
